Going to fish the AFT nationals on Grand Lake in October. Never been there so I'm looking for sections of the lake and general patterns that will work in October.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I live and breathe the Red River in Louisiana and will gladly trade info on it or any other body of water here.

If you don't want info out there for the world to see send me a PM or email at mike@ultimatebass.com

Well, I sent you all the private info i had about the lake, including doxens of photos of a grand lake map with spots marked by tournament anglers. As promised, i have asked some of thos guys for details about the expected fall bite for the timeframe you will be there. It seems to be split 50 50 for now as to if the bass will be on shad in the back of every cove and creek on the lake, or if they will still be on late summer structure. If they are still on summer structure, it will be quite a bit different from what you are used to in the South. Grand is a highland resevoir and the bass move around quite a bit. While you will always find some on shorline cover, you won't win any tourneys with those fish. If they are on summer patterns, they will still be holding on ledges and brush piles. The spots I have marked as main lake and secondary points will have had some of those ledges and piles to check. Common baits would be football jigs in the piles and KVD 6X deep cranks on the ledges. If the water is a little clear, use white, shad or a white with black specles is a killer bait. For jigs, you can't beat a peanut butter and jelly with plastics is a red to purple shade. If they are chasing shad, they will be anywhere the bait is and then it's kind of open season. Square bill cranks will be the ticket then around docks and laydowns. Now, one of the most knoledgeable local anglers i ialked to said that he sugests you fish up the river or up elk creek. The elk will be a little clearer if we have some rain. The twin bridges are of the river or the upper half of the elk will be a lot more like you are used to and will be shore cover with laydowns. This guy says he would toss a spinner bait and a squarebill all day in the river during the fall. Hope this helps.

Great info and thank you very much. Sounds like I'll be hoping we have an early fall. If the water cools enough it appears we'll have a fantastic time.

I don't mind fishing summer haunts either, sometimes you can find them really stacked up, finding those stacks will be the hard part :-\

I greatly appreciate your help on this, cutting the lake down some is tremendous for a first trip too it.

Fished this last Thurs and Friday. Fishing was excellent on main lake and some secondary points. Lots of smaller fish up shallow, but the bigger ones seemed to be out in 15-20 ft. Points with smaller rock and deep water nearby were the ticket. Some had docks nearby but most did not. I fished from Drowning creek south to the Dam. Football jigs and Carolina rigs.  I think by the time you get there the fish will be moving back to follow the shad.
