Just wanted to know if I could buy glitter for my hand/injection plastics at a craft store? I thought I heard someone on this forum say they been using the Martha Stewart glitter. I may browse ac Moore today and just see if they may have anything that would hold up to the heat. Would be a cheap alternative.

There are some that will work. I can't tell you by brand.

Some melt, some loose color, and try to stay away from metal flake as it sinks.

I have used metal flake to create some unique colors by counting on the flake sinking :-*

Plus I'm sure metal flake and microwaves are not a good mix. ;) I will do some experimenting.

Probably not, but if you find a must have color in metal flake you can add it after heating and stir it in. :-* When I poured I did all my heating on a 2 burner electric stove and poured from small pots with modified lips

That's a good idea. I'm on Craigslist trying to find a table, and 2 microwaves. I will try the stove idea too. I'm guessing you just bent a little pour spout on your pots?

Yep. The biggest part about using posts is to get Teflon coated pots. Once you're done pouring, let the pot cool and the plastic pulls right out. Now you have a color disk that you can reheat :-* If they are not Teflon the plastics sticks really bad. This is handy when pouring tail colors. Mixing up a chartreuse for pouring tails, you may not need the whole pot so save it for the next time.

Craft glitter in my experience shrinks, fades and colors the plastic as it leeches out when the plastic is heated to 300 degrees. Lurecraft, mine and other sources have more stable glitter that will eventually shrink and some colors that bleed (purple is the worst) but are far more heat resistant.

I've always used pyrex and the microwave and found nothing as easy for heat control. If I like a color, I add clear plastic to it to extend its use, but also add the same color glitter in the original.

I just tried the Martha Stewart glitter and it does hold up pretty good, I did notice that it does curl a little bit if you reheat it alot. Other than that I would say " go ahead" and give it a try. I'm going back and getting a few more colors tomorrow.
