Understood, i will make the changes gradually and report back with my findings. So in the event it does get too high what would be my sighns? Over rev, and maby a bit looser in corners? Thanks ahain its been a real help. What should be my hole shot time?

Mike Cork

The biggest thing you need to watch for is water pressure. As you come up, you get to a point that your water pressure starts dropping. Make sure it stays around 15 PSI to be safe. You can go lower but you start getting dicy.

All boats react different but definitely watch your RPM's, water pressure, and you will feel the handling change. As low as you have it now, I would expect that you'll see improvements as you go up, then once you start getting too high you start to see performance fall off again. That's when you know where your motor's sweet spot is.

Rite on, so this water pressure how do i moniter that i dont think theres a guage on the dash for that.

BassBUFF

I was thinking the motor holes were 3/4" apart, could be wrong though.

Water pressure gauge is the only way to tell and if you don't have one I wouldn't take it any higher than 3" prop to pad height. You should be good at 3".

Roger that, im not sure where to get the specs on where to life the motor from. I dont have the owners manual

Mike Cork

Sometimes when you get the cowling off there will be hook holds. I just not sure with your motor.

Where is this bolt?  Is it between the boat and motor on the top of your jack plate?

If so,,,,,, and if it is long enough to run from the top to the bottom of the plate it looks like an old Nitro jack plate.  You will have to back off the 3 side bolts on each side of the plate left to right but I'm not sure from the pics if you have to do both sets on each side.  Than you can turn the bolt in pic 4 and bring the motor up, tighten the side bolts and make some test runs.

If the bolt in pic 4 isn't where I thought it was then it's just a setback plate and you will need to do as the others stated to raise the motor.

Also looking from the pics at some point someone used the plate a lot in the bottom hole, don't know if it was pulled from another boat and put on your nitro or if the owner/s before you ran a different prop and had to drop it with the one you have now.  It's hard to tell much more from the photos.  Keep notes on the current measurement, current RPM's, Hole shot time, max speed and get a water pressure gauge.  Each time you adjust the height of the motor or change props try to do so in as close to the same water and weather conditions.

Let us know about pic 4 if you can,,,,, sure looks like you should be able to use that bolt to raise lower your motor.

Good Luck

Well boys i put her up 2 and a guarter inches putting me at 3inches exactly. I didnt get a water pressure guage but i ran her for 30 min strait and no warnings or blow ups. Ob and i lifted the motor properly with he proper ring which twists onto the flywheel bolt housing. It was 37 bucks cdn, all in all it went well i could have done it by myself the ring made it balance perfectly as i used a forklift from work and was careful to mark where the bolts needed to go, hole shot is perfect and got three more mph. I may take it down a hole once i c how it handles in rough water but for now no chine walking or loose steering. Thanks guys for the help.

Mike Cork

Good deal and thank you very much for the follow up report. It helps the next angler looking for help ~c~

3 mph is quite a bit of a jump, that's really good. ~c~

Hey guys. Had the boat out twice since we chatted last and i was just wondering what the max rpm should be. She does about 6200 to 6300 rpm right to the bar. Im not 100 percent if the tach is right on or what but it doesnt seem to be vibrating hard or loosing speed between like 5700 and 6300 or whineing out. Just wondering what u guys think if maby i should go back down a hole or not. Other than that the only other thing i noticed is that when im doin max speed the trim wont go up past level unless i slow down and when i goose it again it just goes back down. Basically i cant get a decent rooster tail goin. Do i maby need those trim arm extender guys that go on the motor? Let me know. Take care

Mike Cork

You need to keep your RPM's at or below 6000. 6300 is to much and I'm surprised your not hitting the limiter at that.

As far as rooster tails go, they are a sign of lost power. If you are throwing water vertical you are not moving forward. Keeping the rooster tail below the motor cowling is perfect.

Not sure about your trim situation. I'd have to be there. But your trim system has trim and it has tilt. When your not under power you can tilt the motor, that is, take it higher than the trim with the tilt rods (this all happens with the same button, simply trimming past trim goes moves into tilt). If you are trimming your motor you should hear two different pitches, one is trim and one is tilt. The motor will force it's self down to max trim if you are in a tilted position.

So should i bring it up a hole or just ease off on the thrittle a bit? She runs beauts when she is all the way ro the floor. It diesnt seem so be hittin the limiter like my pickup does what do you think?

Mike Cork

At this point I'd leave it where it is and up size the prop. If you can turn a pitch higher in prop you'll get your RPM's down a hair and increase your speed a bit as well :-*
