I could see me hitting the garage door opener, and the rods crashing into something that is piled high.  :'(

Doc,  I have two of them on my garage door and most of my neighbors have at least one.
They are simple and a great idea.  They can be used other places and for other tings as well.  I could get one out today if you want one.
