Bulk Line?

So I pretty much fish Seaguar InvisX exclusively and man did I spend a lot of money this year buying it by the 200yd spool. Who buys it in bulk? its much cheaper per yard and I am thinking about buying the 1000 yard spools but I am concerned about longevity. Whats the shelf life? How do you recommend it be stored? I have 5 combos that i use 8, 12, and 15lb test. Each get new line 2-3 times/year so theres no question its worth it in my opinion!

I don't use fluoro lines, but have some bulk spools of mono type lines that are 10 years old & I don't have any problems with them. I've heard that fluoro has a longer shelf life but don't that to be fact. I keep them in a cool, dark place for storage. Heat & light degrade mono lines, so limit both & it should extend the life.

I keep my line spools in a Rubbermaid container inside my tackle locker. I have never had a problem, other than memory at first, in all the years I have been fishing. I have used mono for most of those years but started using braid, co-polymer and fluorocarbon lines for last five years. Still use some five year old stuff for leaders and never had a problem with it. I think keeping it out of high heat and sunlight makes it last longer.

I prefer the air-tight cooler because I have been told that odors like gasoline or oil can get into the line, and that if the odor is getting into them so is some of the chemical, which could lead to breakdown of the material over time and cut the shelf life.

I honestly don't know if that is actually true or not, but if I am shelling out that much money for bulk spools of line then I don't want to take any chances.

This or zip lock bags in a cool dark place, it'll last for years.

Ya, I buy bulk when it's available.
But being anal....I clip off my bait/lure after every outing and retie.
Often do this numerous times while on the water too.
So I re-spool A LOT! 

I keep all my line in a big cooler with a clamp and in my basement where the air is at a pretty constant temp.

I'm also a BIG USER of line conditioners and put it on after every outing and every re-spool.
Braid Aid is my favorite....seems to stay on the line longer and works very well for longer quieter casts.....use it on all my lines, not just braid.

I've always kept my line in a fridge. I was told to do that years ago by a Stren rep, and I took it to heart.

So, it was mentioned in the previous thread about the line conditioner. This stuff came out about the time i ended my career. Any more thoughts on it ? (thanks analfisherman)

When spooling a reel I like using a conditioner, pulling the line through a soft rag or paper towel wet with conditioner removes a lot of the dust that comes on it from the factory. Conditioner can help with line twist and longer casts also. I don't use silicone, it gums up.

I use line conditioner because it works in keeping the line supple and it extends casting distance. If I have used a rod a lot, I'll spray the reel when I tie it down before moving to a new spot. In the old days we would soak the spool of line in water overnight to make it supple. The early mono was very hard and definitely not supple.

What kind of conditioner do ya'll like for your floro?

I just bought a 1000yrd spool to respool all of my reels this winter. Might as well give the conditioner a try if it helps.

I spray all of my flouro reels with bass pro's brand line conditioner every night before I go out. Seems to help with memory.

I don't buy line unless there is at least 1,000 yards on it.  And have had some lines for many, many years. 

Solvent fumes do more damage to it than heat does IMO, so I seal my line up in an air tight container.

And yes I do have reels that actually take more than one 1,000 yard spool to fill, so I have to buy larger ones for those reels.
