Heading to Santee for a few days and getting things ready to pack.  I have decided to take only three rods for me and the Mrs. has selected only two for her.
My Rods will be

Fury 735C with Diawa TWSV103XS
Fury 705CB with Diawa TWSV 103HS
Lee Smith Custom Rod that I call little blue.  Little Blue is a shorter Rod 6'6" with a fast tip and a very good backbone. with Diawa TWSV103HS

The Mrs Rods will be

Fury 663 Spinning M Fast  With Shimano Nasci 2500
Abu Veritas Spinning  MH Fast with Lews Spinning I don't remember the model

Although we have lots of rod and reel combos these are the ones most likely in our hands so might as well face the truth and only take what we are gonna use.

I normally only carry two myself, although my selection is much more limited. The past few outings have been with my Curado combo and the Revo X, I'm freaking loving that reel.

On a boat is one thing. My limit on the kayak is the number of rods it'll hold! Which is only two, but will be four once I get the crate put together, maybe 5 if I add an extra rod holder up front. I intend to do that because simply flopping the rod down to unhook a fish is less than ideal.

But on the bank, it starts to become a hassle to lug around more that two plus a tacklebox, most times I only carry one while bank fishing.

I subscribe to the K.I.S.S. method. So I only HAVE 4 as that's all I care to bring on the kayak

Oh Really, You keep it simple because of no more space.  Just go buy a bass boat and see how long it takes you to start filling it up with more rods reels and baits.   ;D lo ~c~

It is like buying a house.  If you buy a bigger house you just tend to fill it up with stuff.  Small house less stuff. Big House= more stuff works the same for watercraft.

I beg to differ. I have a small boat, and probably more rods and reels than most own all together. Lol. And dont even get me started on tackle.

Not sure what my actual rod or reel count is as of this moment but I have started trying to be a little more reasonable about what I take. Lately I have been from 7 to 10 rods but usually 4 is the max I have out on deck at any one time. I find I get a mysterious bent guide here and there if I have to many out at once.  ~shade

It all depends on where I'm going to fish, and what type of fishing I'm gonna be doing. Could be 2, could be 10-12.

Mentioned this before, I have a friend who has more than 600 hundred rod/reel outfits, he carried 30 plus in his own boat, he could stock mega stores with all the jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits with what he had in his boat, wouldn't touch the amount he left home because his boat wouldn't carry more. He weighed his soft plastics by the ton. The running joke was if you went out with him don't fall down, hours will be spent taking all the hooks out of you. When I had my 14 footer, he would bring more stuff than most of you carry in your big rigs, he was put on the "big" motor and had to find a way to keep his gear in the back half of the boat, the trolling motor shaft just got the prop in the water. He would rummage through my stuff to see if I had something he didn't, I didn't mind, never asked for it but he would give me cash to pay for gas and if he lost a bait it was replaced in triplet.
He would go into a store and I can't remember a time he didn't drop a couple hundred on tackle, drop him  off at home and he had to sneak it into the house. lo
