Back in February 2020, I voiced my slight displeasure with the performance of my brand new Minn Kota Maxxum 80 24V Trolling motor.

Well here is is three months after the initial installation and I am happy to report that this motor performs very very well.  I don't know why it seemed to be underpowered but now it is just about as good as it gets.  Power is where it should be and above all this thing is very kind to my trolling motor batteries.  Cable steering is ultra smooth after some initial adjustments and with its power managing the currents and tides here on the river are no problem for this motor.  If the motor is set at high speed it still won't jerk you out of the boat unless you have it turned 90 degrees to the bow.  The way the motor spins up is slightly gradual and delivers the rpms in a very smooth manner.

I felt I had to post this follow up just so I do not give the impression that I hated it because after three months I could not ask for more.

If there is one thing I wish I could add to this motor would be lift assist springs.  This motor is heavier than my old Motorguide and a little extra help deploying this motor would be nice for this old Geezer.  Minn Kota does not offer this capability on this motor.

Glad she's working the way she should. You might want to check into an aftermarket lift assist kit. I think Maxxums now have that option. Maybe you could buy the system and add it.

Another thing that will make a huge difference is adding the G-force handle.
