Hmm...picked up 2 Minn Kota trilling motors in 45" shaft w/55lb thrust by Minn Kota. One is a Maxxum and one is an Edge. The On/Off and Speed Control switches are bad on both (Easy fix and under 30 bucks). So, which one would you guys mount on my 1670 Polarkraft Dakota and why.

Had my buddy stop by a place we have in Stuart FL, Power Marine, and pick up a switch kit for me. (Ironically both motors use the same kit) and got the Maxxum running 100% again. I'll keep the Edge as a backup motor for now.

I think the Maxxum is a variable speed where edge is 5 speed. When you're trying with your foot to adjust speed on the Edge you sometimes hit the dead spot between two speeds. That can sometimes be frustrating. I never had any issues with my Edge, I replaced it with an Ultrex when they were fairly new to the market.

Good choice choosing the Maxuum. When my motor guide died on my old tracker, I switched over to the MK maxuum. The variable speed and ramp up feature was good improvement versus the 5 speed.

This one is the 1st Gen 5spd Maxxum.

Now to make a bow mounting plate. Good news is, I own 2 aluminum welders (1 MIG and 1 TIG).
