2003 Nitro 901

  I have a chance to by a 2003 Nitro 901. It has a 200HP Merc. The owner is not sure if its an Optimax or not so I assume its not. He says he installed a new Lowrance GPS unit and all new batteries. He bought it used last year and only used it 4 or 5 times. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has a black rug in it. I can't imagine being on the water in July with a black rug. I made a few calls and it sounds like it's about $2500 to have the boat re-carpeted. This guy wants $16,000 for the boat. What do you guy's think? Is this a good deal? I think is is but I would like some other opinion's.

According to NADA the low end for this boat in good conditions is 15,700 and the high end is 17,900 so looks like it is a good buy that the bank would loan on

But you want to change the carpet color so there is at least one added cost that you can use to get him down a bit, I would also take it to a mechanic and have the motor checked out  always a good idea with used equipment, something as simple as a compression check and tell you a lot and if it happens to be an opti max you can plug it in to the computer and it will tell you the history of the motor
