i make plastics and custom paint crankbaits......what are you trying to accomplish when you make your own stuff?

i try to do colors in plastics and on crankbaits that no one has and/or the fish haven't seen yet.  I also try to match colors, especially in plastics, that are either special pours or styles of plastics that have been discontinued.....

I make most of my own jigs, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. But I have been looking for an air brush to try painting cranks like you do. But would take a long time to match your quality.

Jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits...I have 90% of those that I hand made.  I also customize some storebought baits that i got for a good deal on clearance.

I am also pouring a worm that I am yet to see any toehr custom bait place sell.....started pouring it this winter, an dhave a good stockof them on hand, and i made the mold out of plaster.

I have painted aorudn a dozen cranks, too!

that's cool guys,  i'll tell ya, if you have a friend that does machining, it would be worth some aluminium to get a solid 2 part mold done.  they dont lose their gloss like the plaster and fiberglass molds do.  i have a mold on the way, but haven't heard anything on it in a while....

I have been hand pouring my own plastics for over 30 years. I even had a little business pouring for tournament Angeles, friends and club members in California and Arizona. I also make Jigs, spinner baits and buzz baits.I also put together my own skirts.Lots of fun and something to do when I cant go fishing.Plus you can make that secret bait or color that no one else has and the fish have never seen.

I just got started painting my own cranks. I had some lures that caught fish but the top-coat was cheap.  If you make a drying wheel and learn to coat even a new lure with devcon-2ton or etex, you will have a lure that will last longer.  I plan to make my own jig skirts and hope to get into making cranks from 16lb foam.  This is expensive to get started and buying cheap airbrushes is a waste of money if you want to get some fine details on a lure. It is addictive so beware!!!!

the beauty of devcon is that its self leveling....no drying wheel involved.

Crankbaits are about the only tackle I make but also do some repaints.

I pour most of my plastics, make most of my own jig skirts and a few spinnerbaits. The main reason for making mine own stuff is, I get exactly what I want as far as color, weight, or action.  It is has been very rewarding to catch fish on my own baits.

I have been assembling my own crankbaits just to save some money.

Just getting set up to make my own jigs....mostly to custimize my own color combo's and just plain ole personal saticfaction....

Once that is on track, I do plan on pouring some of my craw tralers and maybe a few other plastics....use to do that years ago....

What do you feel is the advantage in pouring your own plastics....I'm really pretty happy with the name brand products I use..

Well, I pour my own jigs, jigging spoons, tail spinners, & sinkers of all kinds, plus I make spinnerbaits & buzzbaits, and I tie all kinds of jigs & flies. I have about 200 molds for pouring lead. Never got into doing plastics or crankbaits.  :)

I've been doing hand poured plastic since 96. I've built lot's of my own molds and have designed baits for proto types for production. I've sold some of my stuff to friends and some aquaintances but never wanted to do hand pouring as a business it would take too much of my fishing time and I ain't doing that.

I use to build my own spinnerbatis, and tie up my own jigs still do a little of that, but mostly pour some specialty stuff I make for myself and some friends. It's a great feeling to catch fish on baits you built or have friends come back and ask for more because they caught fish on them. I like comming up with new colors fish haven't seen.
