I got a two medium action rods one a 6'0 and one a 6'6.  Which one would be best for fishing topwater.

I would go with the 6 and a half just to get longer casts.

Quite in-experienced here, but my 6'6" rod did very well with frog presentations  8)

I've found the longer rods work better too. I think one thing is, when fishing topwaters, most of the presentations often cause a lot of slack in your line since you do a lot of popping and twitching. If a bass strikes between pops, that long rod will move a lot more line and quicker, giving you a better hookset. It makes up for the slack! Just my opinion though ~gf

Here I go again, saying something against the grain....depends on what type of topwater you are fishing. For 2-4 inch chug type baits, a 5'6" pistol grip is very, very hard to beat as far as working the bait. I use a St Croix 5'6" for that application. Now for frogs, anything resembling a broom stick would work. I use a 7'6" Heavy for topwater frogs fishing them in the muck.

I prefer a longer 7 foot rod with top waters. If they are using trebles, I use a mono line or leader on braid mainline just to get a little extra shock absorber goin.

Medium rod with braids works well too.

My favorite top water rod for poppers, chuggers, spooks is a 6'6'' Fenwick MH, Revo reel with 15 lb power pro braid.

i have to agree, i use a 6'0 pistol grip for my topwater, and a 7'0 for my heavy frogs and all, and it works out great for me, i find it harder to work the bait with the larger rods for topwater pop-r and torpedos.

sometimes, when working a spook or 'walking the dog' a shorter rod is actually easier for the action...plus you don't have to worry about banging the tip against the gunwales...

but, at the end of the day, it comes down to preference...I use 6-6 for my medium action rod applicatons...MH/H are all 7 footers...

And I make do with what I have...

Each one would be fine for topwater with trebel hooks. If you're fishing a buzzbait type bait I would go MH. Frog no doubt H action.

The odd ball in my group of G-Loomis rods is a Quantum 6’6” MH Bill Dance Pro Contour Rod. They no longer make the rod, but it’s a dang good rod for Frogs and such. For other top waters I use either a 6’6” G-Loomis or the 7’2” model.

BTW if anyone has one of the Dance rods lying around and wants to sell it please let me know.

Buzzbait = 7ft medium Shimano Compre
Frog = 7ft 6in heavy St. Croix Premier or a 7ft 11in heavy St. Croix Legend Tournament Big Gulp  :)

For rod-tip down lures such as Baby Torpedo's I like a 6 footer, keeps me from slappin' the water as much.
