hull ID #'s

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A RANGER 461VS (YEAR?), WHEN I INQUIRED WITH RANGER BOATS ABOUT PARTS,THE HULL ID# WAS FOR A 87' 393 V. IT SEEMS SOME PAST OWNER CHANGED THE ID# WHICH SHOULD BE MOLDED INTO THE HULL, AND NOT A RIVET ON PLATE LIKE OLDER RANGERS HAVE. MY QUESTION IS, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE SECONDARY ID# IS LOCATED? RANGER SAYS THERE IS ONE, BUT ONLY THEY AND DEALERS KNOW THE SECRET LOCATION. I REALLY NEED THAT # SO I CAN FIND OUT IF THE BOAT WAS STOLEN BEFORE I REGISTER WITH DMV AND TO ORDER PARTS, THANKS!

My suggestion is if you are a legit purchaser take the boat with the title to a ranger dealer and ask them to verify it for you sine they are supposed to know how.  Unfortunately if anyone did know where it was on this forum they would probably be concerned to tell you were it was in case you were doing something underhanded.   I am not saying you are not legit, just giving you a reason why they would be unwilling to help.  Good luck.
