Here's a few (crappy) pics of my first airbrushed bait. It was painted on an XPS Nitro Wake Bait using Apple Barrel paints from walmart, thinned with windex. Has some green and silver ultra-fine glitter that didn't show up in the pictures too well. Now I'm no crankincracker, but I didn't think it was too bad for my first one. It turned out a little darker than I expected, so I guess it would make a nice Lake Fork bass lo. Just wanted to say THANK YOU to crankincracker for all the help he's given me. This guy got me into painting and has taught me just about everything I need to know- but I still have a LOT of learning ~sweat.

Nice looking bait. I agree take it out and catch a fish on it. There is nothing sweeter than building a bait from scratch then painting it and catching a fish on it. I made a large jerkbait from a block of wood and foiled it gold and have caught 10 bass on it including a 6lber. That is one of my highlights in fishing.

Good job on yours.

VERY NICE! I've got a few mass produced lures that don't have paint jobs half as nice as that! Congratulations!  ~c~

Yeah really!!! Did you take it to mexico??

Unfortunately, I must have done something wrong when I epoxied it, so the epoxy was still tacky. No big deal- the crankbait bite was not on at all due to the weather. It's a shame because I also had some newly painted DD22's I was hoping to try out down there. I threw them for a while but only hauled water. We were mainly flipping to trees and fishing shallow. The EGL Swimbait was my big producer on the trip!

I did finish another bait (SK Red Eye Shad), which I fished some too. No luck with it either. I'll post some pics of that one soon. I painted it with Createx paint and it turned out awesome.

Great job! ~c~ Doesn't look like your first try.

Thats Crank looks Sweeet . Congrats  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Tightlinez, most of the time if the epoxy doesn't set right & remains tacky, it's usually the result of improper mixing. Either you didn't have both parts in equal amounts or you didn't mix it completely.

It could also be some old epoxy. The hardener part could be weak if it's old, but that's a shelf life issue.

Make sure you mix your epoxy 50/50, and mix it thoroughly.  ;)

Little bit of VIAGRA might help it stiffin' up too!!! lol   :shocking: ;D

TightLinez

Yeah I don't think enough hardener came out. Oh well, at least I won't do it again.......hopefully ~sweat

bigjim5589

I've made that mistake also, but only once! :embarassed:

Now I'm real careful about getting it in equal parts!   lo
