I've got a laptop that doesn't have a CD drive on it. I have Microsoft Office that I want to install on it but it's on CD's?

Is there any quick trick short of getting and external drive to plug in through a USB port to make this happen?

Do you have a computer that has a CD Drive?

Usually you can go to the manufacturer's web site and download the program to your computor using the password key that came with the disk's.

The best thing to do is to go online and simply download it as BOATS already stated.  You can then use your license when you install it.  Just make sure you download the correct version that your license is for.

Yes I have a desk top with a drive.

I downloaded the current version of Microsoft Office and tried to use the key and it didn't work. It's actually Microsoft 7, and older version. So I guess I need to look and see if I can down load that.

I got a feeling thats not going to be available though?

So is there a trick to maybe hook the lap top to the desk top. Then use the lap top as a separate drive and copy it to the lap top?

You may be able to download it to a USB drive (thumb drive) then plug that into your laptop, or if you want to spend the money you could buy an external cd drive and hook that to your laptop.

I thought about the external, and they are not that expensive  :-*

Amazon has an external USB 2.0 DVD/CD burner for right at $35. It got 4.3 of 5.0 stars, so it's one of the highest rated external optical drives I've seen. If it doesn't work for you, they'll cover return shipping.

Before I started digging into Externals I thought what the hell and tried to copy it to a USB thumb drive (had a large enough one) any way it copied over. Plugged into laptop and found the EXE file and it worked like a charm.

Thanks everyone ~c~

That's how I tested out my new motherboard last year... I set up the motherboard, power supply, a hard drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse on the dining room table and figured out I didn't have a spare drive to load Windows 7. I had an 8gb thumb drive about the size of my thumbnail, so I loaded it with a bootable image of Windows 7 and ran with it. They're really handy to have around, if you can find them in the normal household clutter.

I ran that computer on the dining room table for most of a week before I got orders to relocate it "out of the kitchen". lol
