I am looking at a ranger right now but it has an older style compartment handle. I want to replace them with a t-handle style latch. Question I have is one, are they easy to replace and two, would I need to do any modification to the deck once the old handles are out?  I am assuming that the new ones fit the same hole but are recessed instead of raised. Am I wrong?

I've never changed one? They all look the same size. I know that there is a large nut on the base and it looks as simple as taking that off and sliding the handle/lockout.

I know a lot of guys have got with straps instead of handles. The are easier to get leverage with and pull a latch up :-* Get some basic strap, die it to the color of your carpet, fold it over and screw it in the side of the lid to the compartment in a good leverage point for lifting :-*

I just replace (1) latch lock on my Stratos.  I got one from  our local marine dealership.  They aren't hard to replace mine had a set screw that had to be removed and a large plastic nut.  It took me like 5 minutes to swamp them out.  The only draw back was the cost of $30.00 dollars for just one.
