Thank you!  I can tell you that since I started taking all of these things into consideration, I haven't snapped off on a cast once!  Doesn't mean it won't ever happen but I definitely noticed improvements.  Definitely helps with my mood and confidence while fishing.

I doubt  that you need to lube a knot with braid. With flouro ,yes it will burn if you cinch it to fast or don't wet it.

I do the same with mono, but because that does seem to need it, at least when it comes to my own knot tying. I've stretched the line at the knot many times while snugging mono down tight, so I spit on it first and it cinches down much more easily.

Of course braid doesn't stretch like mono, and you could just yank it tight, but it seems to me that you could risk hooking yourself or cutting a finger. Of course that's perfectly avoidable if you just use a bit of caution, but I go ahead and spit on it to make it a little easier to tighten.

I think it also depends on which braid you are using. A slick braid is already smooth so less friction is being applied on the tighten, but something like original power pro I've noticed can fuzz up a little depending on how tight things are around the eye.  For me it's a might as well kind of thing and that it doesn't hurt, and perhaps is preventing weakness in the knot.
