Those are pretty cool. Didn't know they made remote drain plugs.

Some new boats come with them. Not sure if they are dealer or factory installed. I can tell you they beat the beans out of crawling under the transom.

I'm one who always pulls the plug when I come out of the water and done it for too many years.

Coming up on my second season with the FlowRite plug.   Couldn't be happier.  Absolute godsend for those with knee replacements where kneeling is not an option.  ~cf

Completely agree,,, with my old Nitro I could just bend down after tilting up the motor in the morning and by turning my head I could just reach the plug and twist it in,,,,, if on the water,,,,, no way to get to it without jumping in or putting the boat back on the trailer.

When I got my new Ranger and asked about the need,,,,,, well once I got down and looked at the pad and plug placement I understood  ~roflmao Only way to reach the plg by hand is to get on the ground and crawl a good ways up under the boat not anything I like to do now a days let alone in the 100+ degree heat on black tar or the wet cold ground in the winter.

I had a Flowrite remote drain plug installed in my 96 Champion. Mine leaks unless I use my foot to just nudge the plug in another 1/8th inch. Here is a quirk in the way they are designed: you turn the drain close/open lever all the way to the left to close it, but you hit a slight "stop" and have to go past that about 1/4 inch to make sure it is turned closed all the way (talking about the closing mechanism here, not the plug itself).   Then, some of the time my actual plug is still not 100% in and I have to give it a little push with my foot.  This should not happen at all but I don't know how to fix it.   I probably need to put some sort of grease on the o-ring around the plug too but not sure what type to use/

Whodatt, I haven't installed one yet, I need to, however, I can help with the grease.. plain vaseline is the best grease you can use on any seal. I was a hydraulics troop in the Air Force for 20 years and vaseline save many leaking actuators. Just rub some on the seal, it will condition the seal while providing a slick surface for the plug to work with... best of all... it's cheap.

They do require maintenance. You need to clean it and lube the o-ring. I ordered about a dozen of the o-rings from Flowrite. They come with a white grease that lubricates the ring and helps keep it from hardening over time. The grease is water resistant and makes helps the plug to open and close easily. Mine has been installed for 3 years now and I finally replaced an o-ring this summer. It wasn't leaking, I just felt it was time.
