So i am a seasonal Floridian. Typically i don't get down here until its cooled off, so i usually fish for Peacocks in Lake Osborne in April. I got down early this year & went out today. Water temp was 84F. I figured they should be active.
As i was launching I saw the FWC out with their shocking boat. I cruised over to talk to them, figured I should learn something. They showed me a 4lb LM & a 3lb Pea. They had been cruising down the shore when they picked them up.  Seemed like good Intel.
Made no difference to my day. I tried 3 to 9fow along different shorelines. i threw everything I usually throw for Peas (jerkbait, topwater, lipless cranks) nothing. I threw moving baits for LM and other than a 8" one nothing. I also flipped the hydrilla as it looked really healthy, nothing.
So what do you think? wrong baits for this time of year? what would you have done?
I have fished when the shocker was out in the past & even though we were having a tough go, they were netting fish like mad within 300 yds of us.

That's why they call it fishing, and not catching. Lol. Sometimes they just dont care.

My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Unless they are bedding, Pea's can be challenging to catch. Especially the bigger ones. Culverts and rocky areas are their usual hangouts.

I hear ya LMG.
Ya Lou maybe that's why I have more success in the spring. Here I thought it was pure talent!

Lol!! Peacocks bed often. As long as the water temps remain warm, you will see nesting peas if you sight fish the banks.

Keep an eye out also for Peacock fingerling pods. They look like a school of bait fish on the surface, and they sometimes chase your bait. The parents will be on the bottom of the pods protecting their young. When the bigger male parent blow up or swipe at your lures it can be pretty intense.
