Back in the early 2000's I took for granted peacock bass fishing in the glades. We would have outings where all we would catch were just Pea's on artificial lures, and many times , we would catch them two at a time!! Then sadly, the big chill of 09-10 came along and killed off huge numbers of our exotics, along with huge numbers of Peacock's, and my focused changed to exclusively fishing for largemouth bass.

Fast forward to 2021. Before the water levels rose to ridiculous levels, early this past summer, I was seeing a lot of Peacock bass activity again, and bigger Pea's to boot. I put a pin on that observation, until very recently when a friend of mine invited me to go fishing in the glades, and he wanted to target Pea's specifically. We caught a good number of them, and my fondness for peacock bass fishing was re-ignited.

Took a solo trip to the glades yesterday, and the bass bite was pretty slow to say the least, I said what the hell, and switched to Pea fishing mode. Thank goodness I did, because the Pea's were stacked in the area I was fishing, and in few short hours I managed to boat 22 all by strictly fishing with artificial lures  ~shade

Enjoy the pics!!

wondering if the impending polar vortex might have another impact?

it really would be something if they begin to get 5 lbs, plus.  it would be as addictive as catching brownies.

I lost a 3lb + at the boat. My fault, messed up with the net. :( The blow up was awesome though!!

Haven't heard of an impending polar vortex reaching us. The chill that killed off many of our exotics over 10 years ago was because we had very cold weather (for us anyway) for entire month. We get cold weather, but not a whole month of cold weather.

Lou got a question reference the Peacocks bass.  Why is it that some of the ones ya'll catch seem more Colorful than others?  Is it a seasonal thing with these fish.

Good question Donald, Pea's colors vary. Some are darker than others.

These are an example of a couple Pea's I caught on the same outing. Notice they are shade darker.

I found the biggest color change these fish display are when they are spawning. Their colors really seem to "pop".
