When salt water fishing chum can get real pricey.....Buy a big bag of dry cat food at a costco type store or wally world.  Pour about a pond or two in a five gallon bucket.  Add just enough salt water to make a mush.  While trolling dump a little over board every now and then to scent the water.

What kind of salt water fishing do you do?
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

All kinds....this works with trolling or drifting ;)

The way I used to do it was is to go out and castnet mullet or menhaden and grind them up into a mush.  We actually used to carry a hand operated meat grinder on board with us.  We would get quart size plastic containers and freeze it all and then carry the frozen blocks on board.  We would place the frozen concoction into a net mesh laundry bag and throw overboard while suspended from a cleat and let it defrost naturally and send out a very nice chum slick.

When I lived on Big Pine Key we would trade a six-pack of brewski for a couple 5 gal. pails of bycatch from the shrimp boats. We also had a hand grinder on board the make chum. We mixed it with sand to get down to the deeper reefs.
