i have tried using braided line several times. i have always had the problem of the line unraveling. how do i stop this from happening? it does it mostly when i tie a hook or bait on and it causes the knot to come untied and i loose the bait. any advice would be apprecaited.

I dont know a whole a lot about braided , but what i do know is ,I think the only knot that will hold is the palomar knot. I am sure that others will be by and have more info for you.

That's the knot you have to use all right, and I had some problems with fire line after some use coming apart when the coating comes off so I switched to power pro this year so we will see if it helps

I use an improved clinch knot if I'm fishing plastics on fireline no problem with it holding. I also use a loop knot with some baits and it holds fine also. The improved clinc with the other braids i used sometimes would slip so I tied an overhand knot in the tag end and clinched it down before I trimmed the tag end and that solved my problem with slippage. IF you go to knots on the main page there you will find another knot for braided line. Lots of info here sometimes ya just gotta dig a little. Hope I've helped.

With braided line I have found that a palomar knot works very well to keep slipping from being a problem

Robert there is also a double palomar that is good for braided line Shaw Grigsby showed it to me once but I've forgoten how to tie it. The improved clinch is probably my favorite i use to use a palomar but have gotten away form it. Just a personal choice.

what i have found is that the palomar holds better on spider wire braid . i tried the improved clinch and had a problem with line slipping

I use to use Raptor braid and it slipped but so did  the palomar that was why I tied the overhand knot in the tag end. Shaw showed me the double palomar but I never played with it enough to rember it. Now the PowerPro braid the improved clinch seems to hold pretty good I plan to set up one rod upwith braid again this year for grass fishing again. I got away form it for a while. Now my spinning rods have always had Fireline on them since it came out but I didn't like it on my baitcasters. I think the reason the knots slipped was because of the same thing that nnola brought up. True braids will unravel some times but thermo fused lines don't have this problem. The new braids are better at holding their round shape and not flatten out like the old braids did. JMHO

I have heard so many good reports about Power Pro that I plan on checking it out this year.  Two years ago I field tested the Stren SuperBraid and had trouble with line to line knots but no problems what-so-ever with tying direct with a palomar.  I've been using SuperBraid on my flippin stick ever since.  But, I'm going to try Power Pro just so I can compare.

I tried the 30lb. test Power Pro line on my baitcaster today, and was not happy when I lost a jig on a snag that the branch should have broken before the line...hopefully, it was a fluke...we'll see. ::)

Oh oh, I don't like the sounds of that.  Keep us posted.  I hate wasting money buying line that doesn't measure up.

I tried fire line, loved it for a year, respooled with it again last Fall and had nothing but problems with it, so on the recommendations I got here (that were justified) I tried out the ProLine...

I'm starting to think that there's just no quality control in the manufacturing of fishing line like there was years ago.

OHbassaholic I use a blood or surgeons knot when tying mono to braids. Instead of using three wraps on each side I increased it to 4 or six wraps on each side of the knot. There is such a great disparity of line diamater that the regular three wraps just slip. I've spooled a lot of reels for the river fishermen fishing for sauugers and the guys snagging spoonbills with large capacity spinning reels and fill about half the spool with heavy mono then the 300 yard spools of PowerPro to top it off. We sold some 50lb. but more 65 , 80, and 100 lb. test than anything else. I still use 6lb. test fireline on my spinning reels I like it the best and it's much stronger than 6 lb. test. I 've got a pic of a nice 4 pounder caught saturday with it. I 've used Raptor 20 lb. ln my carolina rig rod and it's the same MicroDynema fiber as fireline without the coating so it was more supple. I plan on spooling up one rod this with 65lb. PowerPro for grass fishing this year so I will be able to give a first hand personal report on what I think of it. I know a close friend that I bass fish with that really likes his river set up with PowerPro I only got to cast it a few times last year because of may bad hip. Snagging season Opens March 15 and I plan on goning to the river with him and giving it  a good workout now that I've had my surgery and can walk again without a cane.
