I just finished doing some extensive independent testing on bearings for Rich at Erie Reel works.  If you are interested in the results they can be found at www.eriereelworks.com

Ceramics always improve the casting distance in reels. ABEC 7 ceramics should have an indentification mark on them such as CB to let the angler know for sure what they are paying for as well as the dealer since they are pretty pricey. We provide data to customer for re-assurance they are getting what they pay for.The yellow rocket fuel is most generally the choice of oil for the freshwatr baitcasters. IMHO!!!.  for corrosion protection, ReelX is a very good product, again, IMHO, over the hot sauce. Different shops do different and that is fine. I just know what has made my shop successful and what products have proven to be winners time and time again. As for replacing bearings, the ABEC 7 stainless are very good bearings and we encourage anglers not to replace, however, anglers are always looking for the slight edge and the ABEC7 stainless and ABEC 7 ceramic give anglers just that. The trick with bearings is the care and maintenance. Most all reels come with ABEC 3 stainless so the 7 is a bit better bearings because of the tolerance. Some folks may not know that the ABEC stands for Annular Bearing engineering Committee and the number is the tolerance. the higher the number the tighter the tolerance.
Thanks for your study. Information is always good for anglers. the more informed they are, the better their decisions. conniek
