The rpm's on my NX750 are starting to creep up.  It normally runs at 5300-ish WOT but has started jumping up to 5600-5700.  What's up with this?  What should my safe max be for the 90hp?

Thanks for the info

Not sure.  The speedometer has been broken for years.  The boat/motor is an '02. The title of this post may not be accurate.  The rpm's aren't surging.  They have always been right in the 5400 range until last week.  I went out on the river to fish.  The first run from the dock, they were at the usual 5400.  When I got up on plane the next time they went up to about 5700.  The engine doesn't sound much different...if at all.  It's hard to tell what's going on in the small winding rivers that we fish around here.  I'm going to a larger lake this weekend and will check things out some more.

Next time your on the water and it's acting this way, reach up and tap on the tach and I'll bet you a  ~beer~ it drops back down to what your used to seeing.  Note your going to have to tap it hard enough to see the needle jump, start soft and do it until it drops or until you see the needle jump.

Kinda like an altimeter during freefall operations....huh??? lo  I'll be out at Talquin tomorrow afternoon.  It'll give me a chance to run it open without having to make sharp turns in the river.  You still in the area Fogy???  Maybe we'll see ya out there.  I'm gonna be doing some night bassin' and a morning bite before heading back to Ft. Walton on Sunday morning.  We're stayin at the Talquin Lodge.  Come by for that  ~beer~

I have a 75 hp merc. Last November I was fishing a tournament, running, and my rpms shot up from their normal 5300 to around 6K+. Engine still sounded the same though, after a few minutes, frustration turned to anger and I punched the tach. rpms went back to their normal level as well as my blood pressure. I still have to do that trick every now and then. So yea, I'll second Fogy's advice.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I puched the "ol Lady" in the eye and she went back to normal. :)
