USA Bassin' Team Tournament Trail on Cane River

Louisianas Red River Division kicked off its season on a challenging note.  Anglers had obstacles to overcome just to make it to the launch site.  Temperatures were 27 degrees and the State Patrol had closed numerous bridges and stretches of highway making it difficult to navigate to the Shell Beach Landing on the Cane River.

4 teams braved the conditions.  Preparing to launch, these Louisiana anglers showed that a little bit of snow and ice wasn't going to deter them from attempting to fill their livewells.  The official launch was at 6:45 am as anglers took to the water in search of a limit of fish. Weigh in set for 3pm.

The day was as "tough as I had ever fished" stated one of the anglers.  Starting out with overcast skies and ending with mostly sunny skies and temperatures finally making it to the high 40s at weigh in.  One team stood out above the fray and weighed the only limit of the day. The Team of Jeremy Hart and Ricky Stevens took the first place honors as well as big bass.  Congratulations!

Tournament Results:
1 Jeremy Hart / Ricky Stevens
2 Aaron Lafleur / Dennis Jones
3 Garry Mccollum / Truitt Roberts
4 Jason Bordelon / Mike Briggs

The next tournament is on Feb 20th on Black Lake, launching at Chandlers.  Although the first tournament is complete, there is no reason not to sign up and compete now as the Points race is still in its infancy andthere are still opportunities for any team.  You can still qualify for your slot in our regional tournament on the Red River, Launching in Pool 5.  Making the Nationals is also still wide open, anglers get to compete on Kentucky lake for fantastic prizes including multiple boats!

Yes, only 4 teams made it.  I - 49 was closed between Alex and Boyce, lots of bridges closed (all for no reason I might add as there was no Ice)  Snow on the ground and docks at the launch site.  Winning stringer was just over 11 lbs and Big bass just under 3 lbs.  Almost all fish caught on Jigs (Black Blue seemed to be the magic...Of course I threw Green pumpkin/Black...LOL)

Black lake oughta be a good one, temps coming up in the afternoon.  Gonna try and make one practice trip there this week.

Yes I know there are two tournaments out there.  With all the tournaments there are bound to be some overlap.  USA Bassin' Tournament is a lot less expensive to fish and we have a national event that you can fish (giving away min of 4 boats, etc.)  If you are going to fish make sure that you pay the two dollar launch fee as they have been stiffed by some anglers on the last few tournaments.  Not a good way to get welcomed back.
