my gf is getting into fishing, if i get a 6:5.1 fast ratio spinning on a 6'6 MH or M rod, will it work. She likes throwing spinnerbaits and i doubt she will ever see the use of a baitcaster.  I have a okuma trio 6:5.1 on a 6'6 M vengence it rod. or i have a 6'6 MH rod unused as well. whats yalls opnions

I threw spinnerbaits on spinning gear for years until I opened up to the idea of a baitcaster. Either rod will work but the MH will probably be a little better if there is any cover around.

That is going to get very tiring so I would stick to lighter spinner baits, I throw those little war eagle get 5 quick spinner baits on spinning gear since they are too light for my bait casters.

Also an inline spinner would be a good choice for lighter gear.

Save some headaches, use a good ball bearing swivel, you can either use a clip, or as I did, attach it with a split ring to each of the spinners she will use.

At least until she gets comfortable using the reel, and learns what to do about line and twist.

My step daughter got pretty frustrated with line problems she caused unknowingly with spinners until I put the swivel on them.

So, would you recommend putting a swivel on anything you throw on a spinning setup?

For me, no. But for somebody learning, yes. Especially when someone has no clue or isn't paying attention, you have to watch, some baits don't twist line as bad, and might be able to get away without one on them.

Don't go cheap on the swivels, you will be amazed the difference in twist reduction between a good swivel and inexpensive one.

I definitely agree with that. Typically, I only use Spro or P-Line swivels. There are other good swivels out there , but these are the 2 that come to mind right off the bat.

I don't know who makes them but I got a bunch of roller bearing swivels, in black stainless, in a bulk bag with no name on it. If I had a choice, I probably would have gone with a size or two smaller, these are probably about 250lb test.

I don't care, they are the most fantastic swivels I have used, They are holding up to the salt very well, and I have yet to toss one because they got "slow". I haven't even cleaned one yet.
