It'll be my first time ever on this lake. Hopefully I'll have some good fishing reports to post.

I've camped at brokenbow my whole life and never fished it other than catching bluegill when I was a kid lol. I bet the swimbait bite there is out of control.

I arrived to lake about 8:00 am. I launched my boat, and saw that the water temp on the south end was at 49 degrees and crystal clear. So I decided right away that I would run north knowing that the north end usually warms faster than the south end. I made a run and made my first stop in Bee Creek. When I shut down and saw the water depth was a 120 ft I just started laughing. You definitely don't see water that deep down here in Louisiana. I idled a good ways into the creek looking at my electronics and I saw a ton of flooded timber on all the points. I started fishing a main point that had a channel swing right next to it. I fished it with a jig, texas rigged lizard, jerkbait, crankbait, drop shot, and a shakey head  without a bite. I tried this on several more points in this creek without any luck, so I decided to make a run a little further north.

My next stop was Otter Creek. Once again I idled into the creek checking my electronics, and I saw the same stuff on my graph. So I started on a point and worked my way back into this creek throwing the same baits. By the time I got to the back of this creek it was 4:00 and all I had caught was one 14 inch spot on a crankbait. The water temps in these two coves topped out at 54 degrees.

I arrived at the lake at 7:00 am and decided that I would run even further north. I picked Linson Creek and made the run. As soon as I pulled into the creek, the water temps were already at 56 degrees so I knew this spot might be better than previous day. I pulled in and started fishing on the south bank and immediately caught a spot on texas rigged senko off a bluff wall. I fished this bank about halfway into the cove without another bite so I moved over to the north bank. I knew that water temp should be a little warmer on that side, and I could also see that bank had a more gradual slope into the water. I instantly caught a 14 inch largemouth on a jig next to stump. I fished down that bank and caught 4 more keeper fish, and had several bites throwing a watermelon candy wacky rigged trick worm. I decided that I would leave this area alone, so idled all the way to the back of this creek. In the back I found a cove full of stick ups and laydowns with a water temp of 59 degrees. I was for sure that I was about to wack them. I fished this whole cove for two hours without a freaking bite. Two other boats in there didn't catch anything either. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed.

I made a move to Holly Creek, and fished it for a couple hours. The water temps in there where 56-58 degrees. I caught a couple spotted bass in there, but it wasn't as good as the previous area.

I made the run back to the launch, and decided I would fish some around there. The water here was a bit cooler and gin clear. I found a brush pile in 15 foot of water in the back of a cove, and caught 4 spots out of it on a shakey head. I knew that wasn't the quality of fish I was looking for, but I knew I could get a couple keeper fish there pretty quickly.

March 29

This was the tournament day. I made my first stop at the brush pile that I found the previous day, and we caught a spot out of it almost immediately. We fished it for about 20 mins without a bite, so we packed it up and made the run north to Linson Creek. I caught a couple 14 inch largemouth right away on a jig when we get there. We keep fishing down the bank farther into the cove with a couple short bites. A front started blowing in, and the two previous days it was sunny and warm. This front caused my pattern on the north bank to disappear. The wind started blowing in from the north west, and was blowing right into another gradual sloping bank on the south side of the cove. I told my dad that this perfect spinnerbait conditions, and I couldn't have been more correct. We idled over to that bank, and on my dad's second cast with a spinnerbait he landed a 4.70lb largemouth. We fished this windy bank consistently catching and culling fish until it was time to head to the weigh in.

We weighed 11.91 lbs and finished in 6th place just out of the money, but took home the big bass honors. First place finished 13.13, second with 13.10, third and fourth had 12 something, and fifth had 11.95.

All in all it was a great time, and I love fishing new lakes. We didn't win the tournament, but I always enjoy fishing Good Friday with my dad. It's the only time of year we ever to get fish, so I make the most out of it.

Excellent report Brent ~c~ ~c~

It's a blast to visit new water and put a pattern together. Even better when it turns out to be a very competitive pattern.  ~c~ ~c~
