I've had bass boats since the mid 1970's and tourney fished for many years. I only run WOT when I'm trying to avoid severe weather. My BassCat Puma with a 225 Optimax will run about 74mph at WOT. I'm curious what other brands with that have 20 ft. boats will run with the Optimax 225? Curiosity only and I'm not changing brands.

I ran a Triton TR-20 with 225 Pro XS last weekend and hit 70mph in strong winds, but had to slow down for various reasons. I know this boat had more left in it.

Most boats are going to run in the low 70's with that motor and a 20 foot boat. It's not until you get to the light hulls that the speed will increase. You can work jack plates and props to inch up but it's a lot of money for just a mph or two.

The Legend in that class is going to run 71-74 depending on loaded and set up.

Mine is a battleship....22'/250....so not exactly a great comparison.

I had 74 loaded with 2 and 30 gallons last spring in a tournament. My ship isnt meant for top end so to speak. Typically I run 70/71 loaded with 2.

I do outrun most of the fast boats when the water gets rough though. I hear about the "ride" and blah blah of lots of brands. The Charger 596 opens every persons eyes when they ride in it...trim the nose and put it to the floor.

I can run mid 60s in nasty stuff and run by plenty of boats that typically have a high 70s calm water speed.

I've seen the 596 run at LOZ. Not many of them around. A truly large and heavy boat. It appeared to run well in the waves as most Chargers do. It had a really large motor--maybe a 300 on the back.

Yeah, they are rated for any V6. Have seen several with 300s
