From my understanding the Limit will still be 1 Smallmouth over 18'', with the INABILITY to cull that fish.

so having a tournament there will still be worthless. Sounded cool for 1 second.

It's not ideal but I still think it would be fun to have a tournament up there. A bag of 17.5'' smallies and one tank would still be a really nice weight. And there is always the option to try to load up on Largemouth. I'd be all for switching the Marion tournament to Mille Lacs, but obviously that would have to be a unanimous vote by the club.

With that set-up, someone could catch 100 5+lbers, but only weigh in 1 fish and take last place, but easily won, no thanks.

Fair enough, BUT would you really be bummed out catching 100 5+lbers? Id take a last place finish for a potential day like that. It's not like it's for $$$. Hell most the club doesn't even go to state when they qualify.

good point,  I'd be interested going there recreationally, but not for a tournament.

Oi! Better come enjoy the smallmouth fishery on Mille Lacs now while it's still a trophy population. With the way the DNR is promoting the harvest of smallmouth it probably won't last  :'(

I believe permitted tournaments will be exempt from 1 over 18" rule

I heard some grumblings about that but don't see anything on the MNDNR website, unless I'm over looking it.  ~b~

I found this on the additional change to the rules:

Hopefully this would pull in the big two next year.

folks COULD always consider a measure/release card format...   >:D

and in that situation, bring your one allowable beast for the weigh in...
