Just bought a 2005 Nitro 929 CDX with a mercury 250 Verado & I'm now in the process of importing it to Australia.

is there anyone running the same combo ?

Also this thing doesn't have a jack plate .. would it be better with one & if so what size ?

Any other details ( prop size / distance below pad ) would be very much appreciated.

Great site .....Cheers Ken.

I'm sure Ron will see this thread. He had the same boat (not sure of year though) but with a pro XS. So while a merc I think there is some weight difference in the earlier models. But he might be able to get you started  :-*

Have you talked to the shipping company and or looked at the maritime reg with the 49cfr? Those documents are going to dictate how you are going to ship it. Some countries require you to remove the motor and crate it then clean and purge your hazmat tanks with a full ag cleaning.

for instance... A military generator...
BOLTED to a trailer it's considered a "vehicle" so you ag clean it, leave a 1/4 tank and slap a hazmat declaration on it.
ratchet strapped to a trailer or back of a 5-ton truck may not be considered a "vehicle" so you have to remove the generator and ship it separate/differently.

a boat i would see the same way since it is not permenantly fixed to the trailer. but that is where the shipping company would be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.

I have all the shipping sorted through my agent....its roll on roll off & so far all processes have ran smoothly.

If our $ strengthens against yours i can see a lot more used boats getting bought by us Aussies as there is not many on the market here & anything decent gets snapped up quickly.

cheers Ken.

Wow, that is an investment on a boat though.  Good luck!

then I wouldn't worry so much about a jack plate. if something happens their insurance is going to cover it. your biggest head ache will be to get 3 quotes that they normally require when you are getting authorization for payment.

Congratulations on your new too you boat!   :-*

The 929 / Z-9 is one of the biggest and most stable fishing platforms out there; drafts very little water for it's size.  the front deck is huge & fishes level with little to no side to side tip when another angler moves around.

As Mike stated I fished out of a nitro for year, but it was rigged with the 225 opti max, with I had the Pro XS the power band is more responsive and has a higher RPM limit.  Standard rigging for the Opti was with an eight inch set back, mine came with the 8 inch manual jackplate.  Best all around position was with a 26 Tempest Plus one vent hole open and two vent holes with the smallest opening at 3 and 1/8th inches below pad; saw 69.4 mph often and my best day was 70.2 mph the 25 Tempest Plus was one vent hole with the largest opening and two with the smallest opening at 3.5 inches below pad ran 68.5 on average with a time or two seeing 68.9.

With this set up there was a little bit of blow out at blast off, but the hole shot was good and when cornering all I had to do was trim down just a tad and turn the boat; it was a joy to drive.

For your set up I don't even know where to start, the Verado may want to run shallower or deeper, I don't know that it even takes the same props as the Opti and or Pro XS or if it does if that's the best option for the motor.  I would say you will want a jackplate, if for no other reason that to dial in your boat performance based on your set up.  A general starting point is 3.5 inches below pad come up to gain rpm's to the motor can turn as close to max rpm's while running WOT but you must watch your water pressure.  Go down to reduce rpms gain water pressure and gain a better bite on the hole shot.

When I get more time I'll do some digging and see what I can find for you motor,,, what year is the motor?
