Any chance the RT 188 will get a 150 hp for 2017?

One of these days I am going to get a new boat and the RT is on my radar. It would sure be nice to have that 150 on it though.

It will depend on sales. If the current rating isn't doing as well as projected the might add some weight (length or width) and bump it. I know a lot of boat companies rely on customer input. You might be the email that breaks the camels back and they make it happen  :-*

Just signed up to this forum. I am going to be in the market very soon and this is the only reason I am shying away from the rt188. This boat could easily handle a 150. I love Rangers and have fished out of them my entire life. I don't want this to be the reason why I don't purchase one.

I have a message in to my local dealer right now about it. I also intend to email Ranger like Mike suggested. In fact, enough delaying. I'm going to do it now!

After thinking about this the last few days, I really believe it has to come down to cost. Not only does the cost go up for the 150, but with the 150 you might also really want hydraulic steering. One complaint that I have heard about the PT 195 TXW with the 150 is it's hard to steer.

If you compare the cost of the Ranger and the Tracker, they are very similar with the Tracker having a 150 and the Ranger having the 115. I think they are trying to stay at a price point and the smaller engine is one way to do it.

Email sent to Ranger.

bubba.barras, Go to Rangers website and hit the contact us link. Very simple and like Mike said, it could make a difference.

There is a lot to put into a boat for the increased motor size.  Flotation is a big issue with the extra motor weight, transom reinforcement, might also be a cost killer.  I'm quite sure that because of safety regulations and other aspects involved, it might be just down right cost prohibitive.  Of course what is done after you get on your own driveway is a different story in most states.  ;)

I'm not a speed demon, and look at the cost of fuel a lot so the 115 actually looks more appealing to me.

I dont need to do 70 across the lake but 60 sounds good!!!!

I have a 90 on my current Tracker and it really leaves me wanting more!

Got a reply from Ranger today.

Email doesn't say anything specifically but does say that details of the 2017 model boats will come out in late August to mid September. It reminds me to check their website often as that is the first place they will publish the new specs and images for the new models.

So.......maybe a little hinting that something could be in the works, or maybe absolutely nothing. We'll have to wait til August at a minimum to see.

Although not being publicized very much, the Tracker 195 with the 150 motors are having Transom Cracking issues. It would seem the the Torque put on them from the 150 is to much and is tearing the metal away from the welds, the welds are not breaking.

This has been reported by several owners of the 195's on another site in their Tin Boats area.

In some cases Tracker is taking the boat back to fix, in others they are sending them to a local welder to fix. The "fix" is adding another 3/16 bar along the transom and welding it to each of the uprights.

One owner sold his immediately after getting it back from Tracker. One is still waiting for his to be finished.

Just getting the word out there and Buyer beware of the issue before you chunk down the money.

August is only 6 weeks away  :-*

Thanks for sharing the info deadeye, at least they own up and are taking care of it. Sux to have a brand new rig need these kind of repairs though. R and D fell short on that one.

Hydraulic steering doesn't come standard on these hulls?

Thanks for that info deadeye. Be interesting to see if those fixes are going to hold up. I wonder if the practical limits of horsepower on an aluminum has been found for now.

Not sure but I doubt it.
Getting into that area where you would need it with a 150 I'm thinking.
