2008 - Nitro Z6 -taking on water

Hello.

I recently purchase a 2008 Z6, in perfect condition with only 50hrs.  Only problem that I have now encountered is that it is taking on water somehow.  I read on other forums that this is supposedly due to issues with the rub rail.  Has anyone else with this model boat encountered a similar problem?  I see no leaks in the boat.

Somethings to check: start with the easy- Check all livewell hoses and pumps. Next check to make sure your livewell is not filling up faster than the overflow can handle. If it is not a live well issue check your plug. The screw-in plastic plugs can strip and cause leaks.

I have seen on various models that water can get in the boat via a poor seal on a rub rail. However it's not that common and think about how often your rub rail is in the water. Usually only when cornering or when coming off pad the last half can get submerged.

Live well pump hoses coming loose, water pressure gauge lines or speedometer gauge lines are usually the culprit.

If it's just a little then could be from your cooler, if it's a lot it could be anything already brought up.

Rub rails are easy to check, pop off a section use a screwdriver and make sure they are all snug, peal of a little more and put on the section you just checked, much easier to do section by section then taking it all off.  Livewells, fill them fill in your yard and see if they leak down, fill them up at night check when you leave for work and again when you get home, pull plug and see if/how much any drains out.  If nothing then turn on the pumps let them recirculate for 30 min or so and pull plug and see if anything drains out.  If still nothing check how your coming off pad,,,, do it like you always do but make sure and turn around and see how much water is washing over the back deck.  If this still isn't what is causing it run a hose in your boat and start to fill it up,,,, don't get carried away and over do it, make sure boat is level and when you see a good bit of water in the bilge stop and let it sit,,,, check for leaks,,,,, if you have a wet spot on your hull investigate and address as needed.


Not a fix all but everything above is easy to check on your own and won't cost you a thing to find the issue.
