Well my plans got changed. Planned to fish tomorrow but the daughter called to see if I would watch the boys tomorrow and part of Saturday.

Had my Deer Hunting plans worked out I would of said no and hunted Saturday. Since they didn't I get to enjoy "my" boys some more.

Won't be long until I'm taking them fishing.

Cport, thanks for that Fluke lesson. I rarely let them fall for long before I start working them. The big fish for me at Kissimmee came while letting one fall while I was talking to West.

I discovered it by accident too. Cast out, lit a cig, fish was there when I finished. I do the same with my stick baits too. I let them sit even longer 20 to 25 seconds. I've had them picked up while I was checking a text in the middle of a cast, sat there for about 30 seconds when I was getting ready to Twitch it the line started moving Bang!

Midday mini report. The fish are zeroed in on Shad. But, you cast towards the commotion and you are getting hit. We have over 7 in the boat so far, but we have had to work. Plus, must be a huge tournament out here because I never seen so many boats coming and going through this area before.

Lipripper

Thanks for the mini report Lou and glad y'all are catching some of them fish. Now put down your phone and go get some of them big girls.  ~bb

Walt and I fished the river this morning. Each in our own boat. I boated 4-5 but only measured one. The rest were smaller. All on fluke. Slow bite. Water temp is down to 67F. That's 15 degrees cooler than two weeks ago. Water is still a tad high for my liking. Should get better if water gets back around 72F this week.

Lou that's how it is in the SJR when the Shad are running. School comes through the water starts blowing up and IF you cast into the mix you will get bit.

No water busting your arm can drop off and not one bite.

Barry I get a chance I'd like to come down your way and fish the river with you. See how it compares to the SJR.

Come on down any time. Nothing like the St Johns, much smaller. Only about 7-8 miles in length above the dam. No tides due to the dam. Water level and flow is managed by bypass channels. Majority of the river is no wake. Not heavily pressured. I saw 3 other boats today. Some shad but main forage fish are tilapia and juvenile bream, I believe. Lots of quality fish but you have to work for them most of the time.

Barry that sounds sort of like a lake on the River.

My overall plans changed again. Daughter called and wanted to know how long I would keep the boys. She got a Promotion to Zone Manager this season so she is now over 5 DM's and all over their Halloween Stores. This is a "test period" for her and they said if she did well that next year it would become permanent and in the off-season she would get what they call a Special Projects position.

That is a big jump from where she was before and would make a big difference in their lives financially.

So I'm doing what I can to help them out until this season ends. Her husband (my old work partner) is still working tearing down stores and such through Thanksgiving. He is one of 3 that they kept on.

So, Papa is watching the Boys at least on days that Grammy works. I should be able to get out a couple of days this month.

Tough on the Fishing and Hunting, Great for Time with My Grandsons and learning more about them.

"Barry that sounds sort of like a lake on the River."

On the southern end, yes. South of the 56th bridge, you can run on plane down to the dam and the river is several hundred yards wide.

The northern section is more like a river through a swamp and less than a hundred yards wide with a lot of cypress trees.

I think I've posted some pictures previously of both sections. Beautiful!

Walt on the river.

-Barry-

@Walt or Barry... Walt what tin boat is that?

BarryFL

It's a Lowes 18 something. Walt has tricked it out with dual talons (we installed them in my garage), led lighting, spotlight, etc... It's a great boat, except in the wind. Very light compared to mine. Walt can tell you more...

In the picture, we are on the northern portion of the river, just south of the Fowler Ave bridge. The river is only about 50 yards wide. I'm fishing one side while he fishes the other.

Very nice tin.. trust me when I say I understand how tin handles in the wind. But those twin Talons DEFINITELY help!!

Tress has been asking me about Horseshoe lake, so we decided to meet up this morning. Launched about 7:15 in his bass buggy, with trolling motor and fish finder. Just enough room for two guys standing, about 11 rods, and our tackle. Started working frogs and skitter top plastic baits, no takers. Moved down the shoreline and I started working the fluke while Jeff starting throwing a KVD 2.5 "woops"y Shad squarebill towards the center of the lake when he got pounded. Nice 21" 4 lb 14 oz fish.

He continued to work the crank and got another fish, about 15". So I tied on a bomber A I had and started cranking too. Got a small one that I didn't measure, but it was my first crankbait fish! After we both didn't get any more on the crank, I started throwing a swimbait, Jeff worked a number of presentations. Very slow. It was time to start heading back as I had to get home for something, so we started working the shoreline again on the way back. I had been throwing and throwing and started to get complacent. I looked to Jeff to say something while in auto pilot when my bait got absolutely hammered! It practically hooked itself. Immediately started peeling drag on my shimano solstice. jumped a few times and both of us said, "That's a good fish!". After a few minutes of drag surges and taking me under the boat, boated a nice 20" fish. Forgot to weigh, but Jeff and I agreed it was 4 lbs or a tad over (he totally called his fish to the ounce earlier).

After I had caught a few more that measured and one that threw me, Jeff swapped his wacky for a fluke, and about 5-8 minutes later got a top water hit but missed him. I definitely was over my time limit so we headed in. Jeff was very accommodating with his boat and as a frontseat, he made sure I caught fish, and although it was my home lake, he acted more like I was his guest. He went to target some more after I left, the bite had definitely picked up. Great morning, got to catch fish and meet another UB member!
I thought Mrs. cport would be sore with me, as I was about an hour later than I said I would be. But she figured I was into something, coz she said," OK show me the picture". After I showed her the fish she said oh my gosh and asked me how the whole morning was. Ever seen the Matrix? I felt like I was Neo dodging a bullet  lo  She gets me.

Good report Cport, productive outing. If you can, move this report over to the Florida report threads and title it Horseshoe Lake.

Lou, please add this 15.5. I measured from top of the tail; if you guys think it should be 15.25, no problem.

Finished my bag, 82.5. time to start culling!
