I saw a herd of 20-30 deer walking across the Kaskaskia river near New Athens, Illinois. I had never seen so many at one time. They were spread out and not following each other. A little slipping and sliding but they made it across safely. The side they crossed to was Oak trees.
I also saw maybe a hundred ducks in a big ornamental pond. In the center was a fountain which kept a space open in the middle of the pond. The space was about a 40 ft circle around the fountain. All the ducks were crammed in that space. I doubt there was space or another duck. Nature is interesting.

We occasionally have herds that large in our fields at various times throughout the year. Mostly doe and fawn but if we use binoculars or a scope, we often see nice bucks staying on their trails just inside inside the surrounding woods.

They must have a calendar or access to the game and fisheries web page, because as soon as the hunting season is over the fields will be full. lo
