I have a 2005 nitro 700lx with a 75hp Mercury. It had a stainless prop on it when I bought it. I don't know the size of the prop. I'm looking for better hole shot and more mph. I run 41 at best on a smooth day. Turning 5500ish. That's what the motor is rated at. I'm trying to decide if a different prop or a jackplate will help the most. I'm thinking of plate with 6 inch setback. Anyone have any thoughts or input would be great. Thanks

IMO (and it don't mean much). You don't have enough motor to warrant a jack plate. A good prop is where you need to be lookin'. If you're turning 5500, the only thing you can gain is total boat lift. A good prop should help with this.

Remember- you sacrifice on the bottom end when you gain at the top. And a bad hole shot is bad ju ju.

In my opinion.

It's almost impossible to get both without a bigger motor.

A "whale tail" will help with the hole shot and it's under a $100 for a 75 hp motor.  It better directs prop thrust and keeps the nose down. Trimmed properly you might pick up a little speed.

Even with a higher pitch prop you're probably approaching the max drag (hydro and aero) that a 75 can overcome around 45 mph, so there is not much to be gained on the top end and you will absolutely lose on the hole shot.

Your best bet for the hole shot is proper weight distribution, move your heaviest items forward.

For top end reduce your aerodynamic drag ( take your fishing seats down) and remove as much weight as possible.

you can try a 4 blade which should give you more lift, but you may lose 1-2 mph. probably need to go down in pitch. buy from a dealer who will trade for a different prop if it's not right. I agree that a jp won't help much on your set up. the speed your getting now is about what you can expect.

Sounds good. I have been looking at the Bob's machine shop foil and some others as well.

12 years ago I had a 17 ft Triton tin with a 75 merc. I added an SE sports foil which gave me a much improved hole shot and a top speed of 47 by myself, seats down. I could also really stick the nose where I wanted it in rough weather. BPS has them for $59 for a 75 and is a possible fix for you for cheap.

The Dell Fin works very well and is only around 40$. I've used them on 2 motors and they helped the hole shot without losing top end.
