1999 Ranger R71

1999 R71 for sale. Have not laid eyes on it other than numerous photos on the posting web site.
From what I can tell its in very good to excellent shape cosmetically.  It is powered by a Merc 125 with a Laser2 prop, 49lb thrust motor guide TM, original Lowrance FS plus a newer Garmin at the helm, new seats, Hot foot, and trailer looks very well kept with a spare. Also the carpet looks good. I obviously do not know its history but before I get to involved and assuming the boat is structurally solid and the engine checks out healthy is 8K too much for this rig?

Welcome to Ultimate Bass. That don't sound to bad for a Ranger if it is structurally solid and the engine checks out healthy. Is it close enough to where you live so you could check it out? From what I have read them old Rangers are good boats.

I would take a look a the BOAT BLUE BOOK first.  Like Lip mentioned if its close go take a look at it.  Test drive it and have it checked out.  Those old Rangers were cool looking boats etc.  I would think that its hard to find parts for them now. 

There's lots of boat out there for sale some are great deals and other well they're not.  Be careful what you buy and for sure get the outboard motor checked out by a qualified tech.  Don't buy the first thing you come up on.

It's a few hundred miles away, that's why I was wondering if its worth investigating. I know Ranger's reputation but that's about it.  I have owned previous bass boats from the eighties but got away from the sport raising kids, job transfers etc. Now I am a few years away from retirement and the situation is such I am going to get back into fishing. NADA says $6400-7800. It looks to be a trade in.  Having been away for so long I wasn't sure how accurate NADA would be. If you all think its in the ball park I might have to take a road trip!!  Good excuse to get out of a couple of "honey do's " this weekend.

It's worth what you are willing to pay for it....

The R71 is a 17'-1" boat with a 6" built in setback, so you will have 16 and half feet of boat to work with.
The Mercury 125 is the best motor for that particular boat, since it's max HP is 130 and is a great combination.  The R series was a lower cost alternative to the 300/400 series boats and should be priced accordingly.  At $8,000, it might be a bit overpriced, but if it's at a dealer and the boat is in excellent shape with all gauges working, all plumbing working, new batteries all around, then $8,000 could be fair.....
