Hey everyone,

Just a quick question for you xtasy owners....and Gary of course...
How comparable are the xtasy actions to the extreme hp's? I've been replacing a lot of my rods with hp's over the past two years and am on the fence about what I'm going to do next. I'm more than satisfied with the hp's for my spinning and bottom contact rods, however my 745 is hands down my most used/favorite. Being that I have all my other bases covered, I've been considering the 755c. A majority of my time is spent fishing jigs and in my opinion the dx745c is...or at least was the best jig rod I could find. Can I expect the 755 to feel exactly the same as the 745 (with the obvious sensitivity increase) or has the action/tip been changed to make it a completely different rod?

The action has changed on the Xtasy 755 IMO.

First thing you will notice is how much more of the rod has power to it.
The second is how soft of a tip it also has.
Third is the sensitivity is off the charts.

A little explanation of the power and tip.  The tip action is only about the last 13 inches of the rod. But it is enough to make soft pitches or long casts easily.
The power is through the whole rest of the rod. Fishing in the mats in Guntersvilee with it was a pleasure, such a light rod and zero problem pulling fish and tons of weeds to the boat.
If you have ever used a 6 power casting rod, you know how powerful they are. The 755 is more powerful and a way better tip action.

For your wallets sake I would stick to the Extreme Hps. Once you use an Xtasy there is no going back.

This is an understatement ^^^

I've used Zippy's 755 Xtasy and I was totally blown away with the sensitivity. So much so, that it made me want one. However, I couldn't quite swing the dough, so I settled for the Extreme HP 745 instead. Again, it's an amazing rod with top of the line sensitivity and balance, but the Xtasy does have a step up in sensitivity.

Honestly, you aren't going to go wrong with either rod. Buy whichever you can afford, and if you can afford both, do it!

The DRX 755C is more powerful than the Extreme 745C. I use both of these rods a lot. The DX 745C is many peoples favorite jig rod. I am finding myself using the DRX now over the DX series. The DRX 755C is a beast. We sell a lot of 755 but more of the DRX 754C as all around  jig rod that'll handle 1/4-1oz well. you can't go wrong with any of our best jig rods. These being DX 744 and 745C and the newer addition of Xtasy 754 and 755C. THX!!

I know this is older thread, but has the "formula" for the xtasy changed over the years?  Reason I ask is this might be the only thread I've read across the popular fishing forums that would describe the 755 Xtasy as heavier/stouter than a 745 Extreme.  It seems pretty universally the Xtasy series is reviewed as "soft" for it's rating and generally much softer than a like rated Extreme.  Typical responses seem to be the 754 tops out with 1/4oz and trailer, and while the 755 can handle 1/2oz and trailer, it seems much better suited for 3/8oz setup (general consensus of most reviews/comments I've read, anyway)

I've got about 35 Doybns now, with a full compliment of Extremes and Champs.  Have always had the itch to try an xtasy, but the common thread of these reviews has kept me from doing so.  I'm in Florida, so really am throwing jigs/creatures in shallow grass and cover for the most part - no deep structure around here lol.  Typically have 1/2oz and creature on a 745 and 3/4oz on a 746, or am punching with the 795 or 805.  It's all about the slop down here...  I want to say I've talked to Bryce about his in the past and his rec was to just stay with what I'm using now.

Maybe I should just pick up another 745 or 746 instead ;)

I don't have the DRX755 yet to compare, but I do have the DX744C, DC745C and DRX744C. The Xtasy 744 is lighter weight than the Extreme HP version (feels like it's fake because it's so light), but the Xtasy is faster and has more backbone in comparison. I would expect the same of the Xtasy 745. That is probably going to be my next rod!

Well, curiosity got the better of me, so I went ahead and ordered a Xtasy 755.  After almost 20 years and close to 40 rods, it makes sense to trust Gary and Bryce over some random internet comments :).  Talked to Bryce today and it's on the way down here to Florida.  Will most likely be used pitching beavers and the like into SAV, reeds, pads, etc.  Will have to see how it compares to my 746DX and 745DX's...

Not many other companies out there where you can talk to the owner/designer and the shop manager to help you make sure you get the rod you want.

Let us know what you think after you get some water time on it.

So it's been a minute, but did want to reply with my thoughts.  As mentioned earlier in the thread, I picked up a DRX755C to try, and to compare to my DX's...  The short version, I bought a DRX754C a few weeks later :).  Honestly, as mentioned they are crazy light and a joy to fish all day.  I think the lightness and faster blank help give the impression the rod is stiffer/stronger that a similar rated DX as well.  I still use the DX746 for my 3/4-1oz Jig/Creature, but the DRX755 handles the 1/2 jig/creature setups, and I usually have 1/4-3/8 finesse-ish jig (for Florida, anyway) or pitching bigger worms with the DRX754.

So I have two DX745's that I have pulled out of the rod locker, haven't decided how I am going to re-purpose them yet.  It's Frog season in Florida but I feel silly using a DX for Frogging lol. and I already have 3 Dobyns Champ Frog setups anyway - 736C for the slop, 735C for more open-ish water/popping frogs, and a 610-4C for small/finesse frogs.  I still keep the DX744 in the boat that I use for magnum shakey head and 10"+ worms, and the DX743 which is kind of my senko/neko kind of setup.

I might grab a DRX 753C to replace the 743 as a all purpose TR/Senko/Neko rod... But TBH I would love to see a DRX 756C to replace my DX746 :) - Gary, any chance of that happening?

Xtasy is by far my favorite of all the Dobyns series and without question the most sensitive.

Yeah I wound up trading a few DX's in and grabbed two more Xtasy's, the 753 I mentioned above and picked up a 2nd 755.  It's definitely a rod you don't want to try unless you are up to buying several lol...

Bryie mentioned they would likely be expanding the line with some more spinning models and yes, a 6 power of some sort ie a DRX-756C I would assume.  I'll be on that like white on rice.  ~gf
