I've read a couple of articles on the switch but I can't seem to find the correct setting to keep the fish in a full livewell when I'm moving at speed.

I have never even seen a switch like this untill now and I really don't know how it works. Is it an electronic switch that signals a mechanism that opens and closes?

Thanks

Typically this switch has a cable to a valve.

In RECIRC the valve has closed off the system to outside water and it positions the valve to pull water out of the livewell and puts it back in the livewell

Empty, opens the livewell lines to the lake to drain.

In AUTO the valve is set to pull water from the lake and put it in the livewell.

My system uses this switch and valve system and I loose about a quarter tank of water on longer rides. Most of it is going out the over flow tube, some might be leaking though the valves but I don't worry about it much. If I have fish in the livewells I'm generally running them every two minutes.

Possible but unlikely -
If your livewell is draining while you are running, either the valve needs adjusting because it's setting either half way between RECIRC and EMPTY or EMPTY and AUTO. With a part of the valve in empty, as you drive it will pull water from your livewell.

A way to test things, fill the livewells with water and manipulate the valve and see if water comes out the intake ports.
