Little back story....I was married for 9 years and use to smoke cigars/pipe tobacco all the time while working in my wood shop.  Once we split for some reason I didn't have the desire to smoke anymore.

Anyways fast forward to today 3 years later :)

I have a golf trip coming up middle of the month in Kentucky.  I am looking to have a few smokes this week!

What's your go to stick or tobacco????

Man, I'm cheap. I use tobacco that's either gifted to me or Borkum Riff. A lot of the stuff given to me ends up in the trash. I'm not into blueberries and honey and chit like that. I like my smoke to taste and smell like tobacco. The BR I smoke is bourbon flavored, so yeah, it's flavored, but it's the closest I get to drinking bourbon and doesn't even come close to covering up the smell or aroma.

Cigars, lol... Phillies!
Once had a rich acquaintance give me a cigar. I puffed on it for a bit. Then a little more. Then tossed it off the dock. "Young man, that was a $200 cigar!"
"Yeah? It smelled like twenty bucks worth of dog shit, and I reckon the dog shit would taste better."

Did manage to get my hands on several real Cubans traveling to and from Afghanistan and Iraq. Liked 'em quite well, but I honestly can't tell the difference between island Cuban and Miami Cuban.

So when I'm in a mood for a stogie, which is extremely rare, it is actually usually a Blunt or Titan.

I would never call myself a "cigar aficionado", but I enjoy a good one. My favorite lately is one called "The King is Dead", and I couldn't tell you who rolls it.

There's quite a few good, but fairly inexpensive cigars out there right now. I recommend heading to a local shop, giving them a ballpark budget, taste preference, etc., and letting them guide you. They'll point you in the right direction for the sake of repeat business

Now, if you need whiskey recommendations, shoot me a pm. I got you covered on that, for sure!

lmao that's funny!  I agree just because a cigar is expensive does not mean it's worth a darn.  I personally like an aromatic but the more I use to smoke I was liking stuff that had Kentucky fire cured in it.

I agree there def is.  I went to a small one last night that I use to go to on the norm.  It has went down hill!  Their selection of both pips and cigars was not great.

Ended up grabbing a Nub Macchiatto which I use to really like.  It was on point last night too!

I like my smoke to be thick and aromatic, with a rich flavor, but obviously has to be an aroma I like. I like it to feel like it has texture, like heavy silk rolling across my tongue. Some slight sweetness, but not too much.
If I could make something like a video clip of my preference, it'd probably start with a log cabin in the woods covered in snow, go inside to a strong fire in the fireplace, with a good stew simmering on the stone hearth with a lot of meat and potatoes swimming in broth and gravy.

That $200 cigar (Fella who gave it to me was James Brock by the way), had a very dry and dusty feeling smoke, stunk like hell and tasted like... well, you ever been to a poorly run pound, and the smell of dog crap is so thick you feel like you can taste it?

My favorite pipe is a custom I've got. It's a Devil Anse, based on William Anderson Hatfield's pipe. A fella I served with in the Marines named Emmanuel Atilano makes custom pipes, great guy all around. You can do some googling to get some contact info or shoot me a PM if you're interested.

mmmmm what a description  ~c~

At one point I had about 30 pipes.  Custom to corncobs.  Not sure how much I will get back into it but I'm planning on buying a couple cigars and a corncob/some tobacco for the trip.

I made my first one, that's what got me started with pipes. Well, not counting the little one hitter I used to keep in my pickup when I was a teenager. Just a couple puffs in the morning and at lunch to help me get through the school day. Half stoned every day, only way I could tolerate so many jackazzes in one place.

But for my first pipe, I'd bought a cheap corn cob pipe in a gas station. Holy cow it was a piece of junk.
So I took a chunk of sassafras wood and carved out a bowl and shank and stuck the plastic stem from the corncob in it. Worked out pretty well for a while. The sassafras has a bit of black pepper aroma to it, but it also has a wide grain and eventually cracked pretty bad.
I also didn't know at the time that the smoke from some woods can be toxic as hell. No clue if sassafras is though, but it didn't kill me. At least I knew better than to try pine, I've seen what it does to chimneys.

That's funny cause I got into pipe smoking and the whole youtube thing.  I customized a corn cob for a contest and it took 2nd.  Took a missouri meerschaum country gentleman and made my own shank by carving wood.  The cap my acrylic went into I used a 20 gauge brass shell end.  Turned out really nice for my first one!  Had a blast making it too

Well the trip went good!

Smoked some Lane 1Q in my corncob Tuesday night.  Then the rest of the week I got hooked on fake cigars :)  Backwoods!  Had a Russian Cream, Berry Honey and Sweet Aromatic.  Also had a Groove Blue Tatiana cigar that was so good!

I'm looking for my first pipe.  Not for smoking, gave up tobacco nearing 20 years ago.  Something for an accoutrement, flair, if you will.  Nothing ostentatious, like Sherlock Holmes, more of a Ward Cleaver, Fred MacMurray or "4 out of 5 doctors" kind of think.  Something that says "maturity", "experience", "wisdom".  Something saying subtlely that person gives good advice as they walk away.
All tips appreciated!

Plenty of options out there.  You can go with corncob to cheap briar.  Get on tobaccopipes.com and take a look at what they have.

I've been smoking pipe for some years now and I wanted to ask if it would be a smart or bad idea to start smoking cigarettes. Can somone express his opinion.

Sounds like you've got a fun trip planned. For cigars, I usually go for a Rocky Patel Sun Grown or an Arturo Fuente Hemingway. Both have a nice, rich flavor and are manageable. If I'm in the mood for a pipe, I like the Dunhill Nightcap. It has a good, full-bodied taste.
Here is a quick tip, if you want to try something different, check out the NEXA Pro 30000. It's a pretty solid option for an electronic cigarette.

Bad idea  lo

Just my opinion:

I've pretty much quit all tobacco, but there are at least some redeeming qualities with pipes.

There's a lot that goes into smoking a pipe that is somewhat "meditative," for lack of a better description. It has to be packed correctly, lit correctly, and there's a bit of breathing control involved to keep a pipe lit, but not scorch the tobacco or your tongue. Also a bowl will last at least half an hour for average sized pipe bowls. All that has an effect of calming nerves and making someone slow down and "take a breath." Tobacco is never a good habit, but at least pipes can be calming.

In my opinion, everything about cigarettes is meant to be quick and hurried, including the nicotine hit. More  sudden with cigarettes and more of a time-release with pipe tobacco. And most pipe blends are pretty mild in nicotine also, although there are some stout ones.

Again, just my opinion.

I have been smoking a pipe for over 40 years and usually when I'm out fishing or just hanging outside on the porch.  The wife kicks my A** if I smoke in the house.  I have over 20 pipes from Dunhills, to Petersons, to Savinelli's.  But believe it or not, a like a cheap Missouri Corn Cob pipe just as much, if not more!  Just don't buy a Japanese corn cob.  Corn Cobs just don't last very long, but for ten dollars that's not a problem.

For tobacco blends, I don't go for the smelly stuff like cherry, or rum.  I get mine from a tobacco shop, and mix it myself.  A light Burley, and a dark Cavandish mix. The only commercial tobacco I will go with is Captain Black (a good one), and only the white label package.  You can get that in any Walgreens.  That is the closest to what I mix myself.  There is nothing like a early morning, a quiet lake, the boat, no one else around, a good pipe smoke, and a nice bass, I'm in Heaven!  :-*

I'm glad you brought this up, now I'm going out to the porch and lighting a bowl!
