With the help of some great advice off this forum, I have bought several dobyns rods that fit the need. Next question:

I would like to have a very good rod for c-rigs and a very good rod for dragging jigs. Two rods or will one cover both? Five feet to 25 feet; 1/2 to 7/8 oz total weight but usually closer to 5/8.

I would like to stay at dx, champ, or sierra level. dx784? dc764? Others? What would be the best rod for each application, and what would be the best rod to try to cover both?

I am going to give you one rod that will do it all. The Dc744c Jig special. The extra fast action and the 4+ power on it will handle all of those options. It can cast a mile and still have more than enough backbone to set the hook way out there.

Now the 784 is probably the best C-rig rod out there but just out does the 744 by a little bit.

And for heavier jigs the DX745 is unbeatable but then it only out does the DC744 by a little bit.

I also go down to 1/4 oz. jigs with a trailer on the Dc744c and it skips them under brush nicely.

It is a must have rod in the Dobyns line-up.

Now if you wanted to go cheaper the Kaden 745 would be the next best rod.

Thx zippy. I have a dc744 and love it. I like it so much with 1/4-3/8 jigs that I never thought of using it for c-rigs. 3/4 jigs seem like the top of its range so I have been considering the dx745 for heavier jigs. Maybe I should just get another dc744.

Have you used a dc764c? Is it a much firmer stick compared to the dx784? Is it similar to the dc744? Im looking at 3/8 weights, two foot leaders, and various plastics. Is the 764 too much? Is the 784 better for that weight?

The 764 is not as firm or fast as the 744. It is a good c-rig but not great for heavier jigs.

My heavy jig rod is the Xtasy 755c I can feel every pebble and shell and tell the difference.
The DX745 is as close as you will get to it.

If you are talking flipping then the DX795flip is the top of the line.

I really like my 745 for throwing bottom contact baits like dragging a jig or c-rigs. I like having the 5 power because it has a little more power to drive heavier gauge jig hooks home whenever I might be out on a long cast. Just something to keep in mind.

fishballer,
The Dc744 actually has more backbone than the DX745. The extra fast action gives it more power. It is nothing like our 734s.

I will try my DC744 for c-rigs. I expect I will like it - its a great rod. I may decide to get a 2nd as I really like it for 3/8 jigs. The c-rig rod is likely to be fairly committed to c-rigs. We will see.

If the shop ever gets the dx745 back in, I hope to order it for most all jig work. If it will throw the 3/8 well, I wont need another dc744. Worst case is that I will need another rod.

Its tough when none of these rods are available nearby to handle. You guys have not lead me astray yet though! To date: dc805cb, dc764cb, dc705cb glass X 2, df705cb, dc744c, dc704s, dx743s, dc733s, and dc732s.  :surrender:

I like them all. I have thought about trading one of the 705's for something. There are a few more I am spying. Thx guys. ~c~

If I was dedicating a rod to c-rigs in open water it would be the 784c.

Killin me zip!! So a dx745 and a dx784? I was afraid/hopeful of that! I may start with the dx745 if the dc744 cant throw c-rigs for a while. Im sure it can.

Any idea when those two rods will be available thru the website?

Yes the 744 can do all bottom contact except for the extra heavy stuff.
I can't answer any of the availability questions as the shop has trouble with keeping up with shipments. This world crap is fowling up deliveries and availability of materials.
I am a machinist and we are having trouble getting materials. Lots of orders but nothing to work with.

DX784C.  The length will help throwing the ball and chain.  The DX has some good power in the middle third of the blank.  Awesome football jig rod.

What's the story on the dc764c? 1/4 - 1&1/2? Is that legit? Broom handle with tip to throw 1/4?
