Maranacook July 16

Hot muggy morning got to the Winthrop launch at about 10:30. Wind out of the south just enough to make whitecaps. Started on docks on a new stretch of shoreline. Fished about 6 docks catching 3 between 3 and 4 pounds. 1/2 brown jig menace grub.  Fish were positioned close to shore on the walkways 2' and less. Clear water scattered grass and cabbage. Fished a spook some between docks....no lookers. On Champlain last week Keith Combs talked about using a 8" or so 20lb floro leader with his braid to keep the hooks from hanging up. Tried that. Seems like it will work. Tied the spook with a Rapala loop knot. Moved out and started fishing grass humps in 12-20 foot with my fairy wand and a drop shot. Caught the biggest of  the day 4 lb 5oz green fish followed be another quality brown fish next cast. Lunker City ribster 3/8 oz sinker. Fished a few more humps catching just one more smallie when the sky go black with lightning. I quit early at 1:30. Would have culled to about 15 lbs for 5. Got several patterns now to play with come derby time in a week.

Thanks for the great report. Sounds like it was a great day on the lake.
