Consider using a center tank boat if you have a bothersome back. The weight distribution makes the boat run flatter. A flat running boat reduces the jolt of waves and the vibration of choppy water. The trade off is losing a mph or 2 off the high end. Another good point for a center tank is room for saddle tanks in the rear. They allow longer runs,  less time spent at the gas dock and allows you to run in the traditional nose high attitude. When fishing, the center tank boat has more stability in pitch and roll than a rear tank boat.
My specialty is pitching and flipping. My BassCat Puma has the front deck fishing position forward of a traditional bass boat. It feels you are fishing over the water and promotes flipping and pitching. The center tank design allows the front position by reducing deck movement while fishing.

Padded decks, a recessed Trolling motor pedal and a pedestal seat have helped my feet and back immensely. I can fish in bare feet now. 40 years working on cement floors standing for the most part have wrecked my lower back and from the knees down and feet. My feet hurt always except barefoot on my front deck.

All great advice. If I ever get a new one, I'll looking at these things. The prices right now are out of my reach.  :surrender:

I'm right there with everybody as far as back issues. Mine is to the point I can't stand or walk for more than about a minute. Add to that the balance issues I have been having the last year + and it doesn't make for an easy fishing situation. It is a double whammy for me because I'm a bank angler. I can no longer walk the length of a bank or stand on uneven ground and fish.

I'm about to start getting the cortisone injections to see if that helps. If not I may have to look at hanging up my tacklebox. Or only getting out when my brother-in-law has the time to take out his boat.  :P

The big issue for me is the back and forth rocking from wave action and wakes, if I could afford it I would buy a new wider boat with the ability to have more weight in the middle to bow area, that would mean a Lund, they can have the batteries mounted midships. Smallie, if the pain is coming from arthritis the injections will help, I'm not sure about other issues.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.
