I want to play Devil's Advocate. What's the deal with reel bling? All the after market fancy color accents and knobs that you can put on a reel. Don't most fishermen fish away from other people so is anyone actually seeing your fancy purple knobs? Couldn't that money be better used instead for a better reel?

I don't bling reels.  I have one I bought used from LMG.

However, I put lift kits, and big tires and custom rims and all kinds of completely unnecessary things on my trucks.  The jeep is next.

Why do I do it?  Because I like it.  It makes me smile every time I see them...

Oh no, nothing bling about anything I do while fishing.  Just good music on the ear buds!

The one customization I do is with the new reel handles.  Most have a set back on the handle and when working the handle hard I have cut my knuckle on the nut cover on the reel.  I have had it bleeding several times after working a big bass in to the boat.  To solve this problem I remove the handle and pound it flat and reinstall.  This solved my problem quickly, that's as bling as it gets!

I have done it a couple times. Like FD and his vehicles it is just for fun and because I like it.

The one modification I'm particular about is my reel handles. I prefer a 95mm length for most things and carbon fiber in most cases because it will shave a little weight off. EVA knobs are the most comfortable for me but I also like cork knobs.

These days it's not that expensive to find a good carbon fiber handle with these types of knobs. I bought 2 off eBay for less than $20 shipped and one already had the bling built in.  They came from China so the wait was a bit long but worth it for me.

I did the whole matching reel and even line colors to rod colors a couple times but it was just for fun.

To me it's really no different than  anyone who tricks out or customizes anything. Unless you're planning to sell it and it's gonna drive up the resale value then it's just for fun and personal satisfaction.

I do it not to show off. I just really like the way my rigs look.

Besides, some of us have a massive OCD you know :P

I've got a few with minimal bling (mostly all related to the handle and it's various parts) but no pictures currently.

I did the whole match the reel colors and line to the rod colors a couple times too.

I just did it for fun and never really spent that much $$ to do it.

I'm definitely more about function over form though.
