I see the gen 4 Revos are on sale. Can someone give me some insight on these reels? Do they have any spool support/pinion support? How durable are they. I know gen 5 is coming out soon. Ive mostly been running Lews and Shimanos. I’m looking specifically at the Revo SX and Stx. The Revo X and S look intriguing.

The Gen 4's have a pinion gear pin support but no bearings supporting the pinion gear it's self like you might be used to on the Shimano reels.

As far as durability, I think they fixed many issues we used to see in the shop in Gen 3's and earlier models.

Mike forgive me for my multiple pm’s bc I thought my messages were not going through. I now see that there has been as issue with messages being delayed. Thanks for your reply. I’m still considering purchasing some STX’s I was just concerned over their durability.

If you have Lew's, you have a Revo. They are both Doyo Reels with some different features.
Personally, If I could buy a Tatula for the same money it would be a no brainer. But that's personal preference.

When I started experimenting with different bait casting brands, the first one I came across were the Abu Revo's but this was back in the Gen one/two days. I had the SX, STX, and another one that slips my mind. They were ok, they treated me well. I eventually gifted them to my BIL who loves them. I moved on to Lews, they are pretty good too. I still have them. Then I began experimenting with Shimano's and I began to build my reel arsenal around them. I have thrown other brands since then, but I keep coming back to my Shimano's.  ;)

Both are made in the Doyo factories. It does seem they have similar builds. abu seems to be a little more bulkier though.

I have three Curado 200’s, two Curado MgL’s, one Chronarch 2016 model, and one SLX and SLX XT.

I had a Shimano 150 DC and I'm not a fan. I prefer the 200. I had some lews And I liked them. I seen the Revos gen 4 on sale for a decent price. Thought about trying some of them out for the price.

I use Bass Pro PRO QUALIFIERS, they are made by DOYO also and for the money are good reels, like any others they need maintenance or they will have issues.

I saw where they recently updated them, but I think it is the same reel just with diff color scheme.

As fait would have it once I placed my order for the Abu’s the next day it said there was an error with the ordering process. I take this as a sign and will order me two more Curado 200’s along with one SLX Xt.

my friend HATED his Abu Revo X.  i think that is what it is called.  he gave it to me.
6:1 ratio or something.

took some finicking getting it to cast but once i did it fires them!  i use it for chatters and spinnerbaits, and sometimes swimbaits.  slow things.  i always thought i would use the freebie for a while until i got something better.  at this point, i dont think i ever want to rid myself of it.  it casts so FAR!!  it will sling a swim bait towards the horizon.  reel might not be the smoothest compared to my newer shimanos, but it is so silent.

i think my friend wanted it back when he saw me firing a spark shad to distant grass.

Abu still makes some decent reels. Like any other reel if you keep them maintained they will perform well and last a long time.  A little TLC goes a long way.

I have a couple of the first gen Revo STX and a couple of the early Silver Max produced at around the same time, and have not had any problems with them. I don't fish often enough for them to be a better reel than they are, so they do what I need.

I have several of the older ABU round reels, some even made back in the 70's, and frankly prefer them but also do like having the low profile reels too.

I have added a couple of Black Max & Max X to try some left hand reels, and keep the price reasonable. So far, I've not used them enough to have much of an opinion, but they cast fine and I expect they'll last me as long as the other LP reels.

I feel that ABU ( Pure Fishing) is playing too many games with the names now, and it's hard to tell which is a "better" reel, as the price tags & reviews I've read don't seem to fit.

Can't remember if it was Gen 1 or Gen 2, but the SX was notorious for being finicky, but when dialed in they bombed lures.

OP, I know nothing about Gen 4 reels.  I do like my Gen 1 STXL a lot.  Been a good reel for me, and I've made some very long casts (for me) with it.
