No Excuses

The shallow bite bit me in the rear this past Thursday night. I knew it should be winding down, but I didn't expect it to just die! It was slick calm and fairly sunny. We only managed 3 for 3 and some change. Another team caught a whopping 23lbs 3oz in a 2hr and 45 min evening derby!!! They had a 9-5 kicker. And that was on the lake that is NOT trophy managed! They lost another one that was bigger than the 9 that would have put them over 30lbs.

So, Friday me and Pop went to the Lower lake to start beating brushpiles. He managed a spawned out long skinny big headed female that weighed 4-12, and a couple smaller ones. I caught one 12" fish.... I did however clean a pile of broken line and 3 crank baits out of one top! I decided to redeem myself Saturday and go fish while listening to the Hogs and Aggies play baseball. Let's just say the fishing was better than the game.... I caught 4 out of the first top I fished. Went to the second spot which is just an offshore hump with some stumps on it. Caught one around 3 and a 6-6 and lost another good one. Hit one more spot for a 2.5 and headed in. Real nice couple hrs. Caught 9 I think and the best 5 was 17ish. My ElectroSamsom scales crapped out and I bought a cheapie from WM while waiting on my Rapala touch screen to come in. They didn't record all the weights. Hope y'all enjoy!

Mark congrats to you and your dad on a great trip.  Tks for putting the video together for us also.  Those Big Headed Long Skinny bodied fish sure look bigger than what they weigh post spawn ~shade

What do you think that fished would've weighed Pre-Spawn?

I don't remember but do you pour you're own plastic worms also?  I know you do 'The Truth'  ;)

Thanks Donald!

Just going by length and head size, I figure she would have been 6-7lbs.

I do pour a few. I made a couple molds for fun and just copied the Googan trick worm. I don't sell them and really I don't use them. I am a ZMan ElazTech purist lol, I have fished Zman in the front and two guys in the back throwing zoom, all 7" JuneBug, fishing the same brushpiles, and outfished them 5-1. There is just something about that worm. And you can fish most of the day with one worm. They just don't hardly tear up.

I did also experiment with The Truth yesterday on a Carolina Rig and caught a 4-1. It's the first fish I have ever caught on a C-Rig. I'm going to have to do some studying on it! Took my wife out for a couple hrs Sunday after church and she caught a nice one that was just under 4lbs. It was a great weekend!!
