Since I've lost all my hair, I ruin a hat in a day. The front soaks so much sweat that there are white lines on it like the annual lines on a tree after it's been cut.

I notice many folks wear dew rags in videos.

What say you bald guys, yeah or neah to the dew rag and how much does it really help?

Any particular brand or material better than the rest?

I tried dew rags when I was working. I soaked the rag quickly. I wore the traditional "boonie" hat with the extra head vents in hot weather. I wear a ball cap when fishing for protection from hooking my face.
One thing I found that helped with sweat was the sweat band that tennis players wear on their wrist to keep sweat from running onto the tennis grip. They a soak up prodigious amount of sweat, you can rub it over your face and head then occasionally wring it out.

boonie hat for me with the vents -- gives good all around sun protection too, including the ears

I wear one but for sun protection when running down the lake with my hat off. My first my wife made from an old neck buff/gator.  It doesn't help with sweat but we don't get the heat you guys do.
After seeing FD's last winter I picked up a couple like it as well

I have been shaving the head for 20 years and I shoot USPSA and IDPA competitive handgun matches where the sun beats down on you and there are high walls on the bays which block most any wind. Now in Florida for 3 years I find that it is also needed in fishing more to block the sun as well as keeping the sweat outta the eyes.

I wear a Bandana tied around my head with a tail hanging off the back to protect the neck. Just a $2 cotton Bandana. They block the sun and soak up the sweat and keep it out of the eyes which is a big deal for folks without hair. Cotton breathes well so wind will cool it down.

I cannot stand the Gaters that lots wear as they are so tight on my face it makes me crazy.

Your hat will fit over it and snug it down.

Just my way of doing things and there are many You tubes out there on how to tie one.

Just a ball cap and carry a towel. I don't know what you guys are complaining about, temps have been in the 60s climbing to low 80s on a hot day. lo

Do they have SPF protection?

I recently started shaving my head. I have an assortment of Doo-Rags, bandanas and skull caps (Thanks FD on the skull caps) but only the skull caps have SPF and I've already got a sunburn on my head and neck from wearing just the Doo-Rags.

Odd but related question for Larry or @FD: Do you get a fully clean and completely bald head?  If so, do you use a bladed razor or straight razor when shaving your head?

I've been using a Pitbull Skull Shaver rotary shaver. It gets really close but it leaves that "shadow" look on my head. I have moderate tremors and I'm a little hesitant to take a straight razor to my head cause I'm afraid I'll chop off an ear

But if that's what it takes to get the fully clean look I'll attempt it. At least once.  lo

I shaved with a Trac 3 Gillette for many years and struggled with the cracks on the back of my neck and even used Nair to get that.

Then I found the Defender Razor online and all that ended. Nothing shaves the head as close as the Defender and no cuts. Any razor can shave the face but the head is quite different. I used Harry's and gillettes 5 blade and they shave nice but load up quickly and are hard to clean.

Never had an Electric get very close and the cracks were even worse.

I shave in the shower and just use soap and the water softens things and will extend the blades life. Get a mirror for the shower and try it. You will thank me for this.

As far as SPF protection the Bandana does not allow sunlight through like a cotton Tshirt. No burning.

Flamingo for me.  I was using dollar shave club but then the boss found them for me a few years ago.  Technically they are for ladies but nothing else works better on the round and wrinkled head.

I wear a regular hat as y'all saw, or a boonie cap, that's all.

I don't wear one fishing, but I wear an EVS Sports sweat beanie under my helmet when I ride my dirt bike.  It wicks away sweat pretty good and the vents allow heat to escape a bit.  It's $14, so more than a bandana dew rag....

I own over 30 hats that I might wear fishing, trucker/baseball types, and boonie types. Most are a camo pattern, since that's the SC state color!  ~roflmao

I've got some of the buff/gator neck coverings but have never given do rags any thought.

My head is like a cue ball, so I sweat and the hats absorb it. When they get scrungie, I wash them. When they get worn out I toss them, but I wear hats until they're falling apart.   lo

None have been expensive, $12 each or less.

I give a little more consideration to shirts. My wife, Donna, bought me some shirts years ago, that were a synthetic fiber that wicks away moisture. I've mostly just worn cotton or polyester shirts, but I like these other shirts. They're made in types that are meant to keep me cooler and some meant to retain heat in the colder temps. I think they help with the sweating overall. One brand is "32 Degrees", and they're very reasonable in price. If they had a do rag, I might give them a try.

IMO, Buff, Do Rag & some of these other brands are likely a similar material and way over priced for what they are. A couple of the neck covers I have are Ebay or Amazon purchases, that do the same as the name brands, and could possibly be the same material, and frankly all of it seems to be imported anyway.

I have the same problem, Mike. I just have a few hats that already have the salt rings and I wear those fishing, working outside, etc, and then I have a few "nice" clean hats I wear in public.

Years ago when I did construction I used to wear a bandanna, but I haven't done that in decades.

Great stuff to look at, I didn't even know options like that were out there... Thank You

If you like the shirts from 32 Degrees, you should try their underwear. I went from using an expensive brand called Ex Officio at $30/pair, to using this brand on sale right now for $3/pair!

I'm not bald, but I have started using this stuff on my hats.  So far, on 3 hats, it has worked great.

Huh. Never seen that before, I may have to give it a try. Do you spray that stuff on the inside of the hat or the outside? Or both?

fishingram24

Think I'll just wait until November when the temps may drop below 90. Can't remember a day below 90+ in over 2 months around here with heat index over 110 every day, just to hot for me.

Retired and loving every minute of it!

No way. Buy hats that can go into the laundry. Fishing gloves, hat and face thing go into a net bag and into the laundry.

Spray it on the outside, on the front and brim. Two coats, letting it dry in between. It's still working great after 10+ trips on 90-100 degree days.
