Dadgumit! I went fishing

I just had to go fishing. I was losing my mind thinking about it. The county has many small ponds for kids and old guys to use. You don't show up at these ponds with a $300 bass rod and fancy reel. Besides, I wanted some Catfish. Going through my area of ancient fishing gear, I found an early era 5' 6" ZEBCO fiberglass rod and a ZEBCO 202 reel loaded with Dacron line. The rod was limp and whippy. More limp than an old guy's vanity. The 202 reel was the very CHEAP plastic version of the CHEAP ZEBCO 303 light aluminum spincast reel. The perfect equipment for "old school" catfishing. The ponds are small. You can easily cast across them and 5 feet at the deepest point. The critter I was after was the Mud Cat. They are small and a foot long cat is a perfect size. For bait I had a hot dog from the last lunch. I also had a Budweiser I had poured into a soda can to fool the local troopers. Chairs are scattered around the pond and because of the heat, I had the area to myself.
I fished the hot dog pieces on a tight line and had my first cat in minutes. Before an hour was up I had 15 mud cats. A fun way to kill some time and evn more fun if a child is with you.

Wiz, glad you had the opportunity to get out and wet a line.  Congrats on the catching and I think that style of fishing is what most of us started out doing a long time ago

You can't go wrong with catching catfish.  Lots of fun and a good tug.

Suson Park has 4 small ponds and a petting zoo, Every Wednesday during nice weather a County truck will put 10-12" trout into the trout pond. At least 1 trout of 4 pounds or better is placed into the pond each week. The other ponds are: bass and bluegill, mud cat, channel cat. Only the trout pond is stocked during winter.
