Life has a way of getting in the way. Look how long you were away, but you're back now and I'm sure over time others will find the time again to come back.

A couple of other thoughts:

It's summer. People taking vacations, all the BBQ's and holidays and people get busy.

It will pick up more once winter sets in because a lot of the northern guys will have cabin fever and start posting more.

Just a guess on this part but the changes to the look and layout of the forum may have led some people to take a break.

The majority of our membership is older guys 50 + and some older people don't adapt to change well, especially if they struggle with tech.

That age gap is something we need to work on bridging IMO.

Just my random $.02

This years heat has been brutal, now we're heading into fall where many switch to hunting and leave those lakes to guys like us  ~bb

It's a little slower, but there have been a ton of changes and implementation of new processes has really just started taking hold.

Got some thoughts, I'll jump in there and discuss with you  :-*

Good post Smallie. Yes, activity has dropped off. Reasons? Smallie touched on several good ones. However, I have made other observations as well. Our members are choosing to participate on other platforms and fishing forums versus here on UB. Why? Who knows. The fascinating part is that the topics created off site, are great topics. But for whatever reason, our members feel more comfortable posting these topics on other platforms rather than posting the topic on here on UB. I bring this up because I surf different sites, and come across many of the same screen names that are also members of UB. That's just one observation.

Capt. BassinLou

Btw, @ Captsteve. This is great thread, that can help UB, move forward. Thank you for voicing your observation.  ~c~  ~beer~

It's all probably because I haven't been as active lately. ~shade

I've been super swamped both at the office and the home office. While I can't blame it all on the heat, I haven't fished since June, unless I count casting a few times from the shore while camping. One of the many reasons I'm looking forward to Guntersville! I NEED FISHING TIME!

Between the heat and several remodeling projects, new flooring in the kitchen and laundry room and supervising an exterior house repaint job with 23 gallons of paint, its been a busy summer. Really just to hot to fish and I hate to get worked up over fishing knowing I won't be on the water.

Yes, where was this thread posted? I missed it too. Just did a quick thread search and it didn't come up.

It's under General Tips.

I haven't been around that long here, so I don't know what it was like before in terms of traffic, but the folks here are top-notch and genuinely helpful. I have an account on a high-traffic forum and I never go there. My questions always get answered here, and often people here go above and beyond to be helpful. FD took time out of his busy schedule to talk to me on the phone about rod building questions I had, and Nutt offered to meet me at a boat ramp to help me sort out a prop issue I was having. I ended up getting it resolved on my own (with help from posts here), but the offer was genuine, and something you won't see much of on most other sites. Also seen guys whose boats were down be able to link up with other members for fishing trips, etc.
It might be a little slow some days, but it's all good.

this is a good group of people for sure..

but the admins may have over-sold the "ultimate" part of the group name.  hahahhaha

still better than another forum that has a glitch in the system that wont get me approved by admins to even join the forum to begin with...and now my email address is "already used by another member"..hahah..talk about no-man's land.   seems like a active convo over there tho, but alas i can only look in from the outside windows by the back door, in the alley.  :D

Mike Cork

UB used to be the number one forum for many years in the early 2000's. I'll have to dig up the article describing how Ultimate Bass was created, the forum was not part of the original napkin plan. It originally was just a website for anglers of the "Ultimate Bass" tournament circuit to view their standings  ;)  Back then the only other bass fishing website was actually a chat board called the Bass Fishing Home Page. It grew from there.

I have full confidence we can turn the variety of anglers in the bass anglers today to UB. 25 years ago there were not near as many anglers, we just got to get in front of these new anglers  ~bb

Ultimate Bass, if you look at all we have to offer from the main site articles to the largest fishing forum (not saying active, but most data) the name still fits  ~c~  ~c~

Greetings to everyone  8)

Steve glad you're back with us.  For sure activity has been slow and there aren't the number of postings like there were previously.  I've been a member since 2009 and have seen the peaks and valleys on the activity here at UltimateBass.

There have been great points brought up reference to the WHY etc.  All which are true.  Our membership right now from what I seen are fishermen in their Senior Years.  There are a few of the Younger members out there still.

For me getting sick was a real shocker in my life.  My doctor told me it was going to be a long road back at least a 2 years.  It's been a year now and after my last visit with my Kidney Doctor there was lots of GREAT & Promising News.  My health is improving daily but I still can't get out on the water not yet at least.  If things continue to improve then I'm looking at a return to the water this coming next Spring  ;)  The fishing reports will restart back up  ;)

We have some really GREAT MEMBERS here that are willing to assist in everyway.  I can't say enough positive things about the OWNER & Previous Owners of this site.  True Fisherman and most of all TRUE Friends.  The Staff here is Second to None and I appreciate all that they do upfront and behind the scenes.

Activity will pick backup it always has  ~shade

It's still the friendliest site of its kind. I don't look at anything else because of that, and I haven't for years.

Personally, I myself am a proven topic-killin' MACHINE. Don't know if I should take any pride in that...

Anyone want to argue about FFS ruining fishing? (Forward Facing Sonar) That seems to be the hot topic right now on the various "social media" platforms.  ~shade

I'm kidding of course!  lo

Admittedly, since this site has a lot of older members, when posts are made, a lot of times the information provided is "preaching to the choir" I'm not saying that older folks know it all, but a lot of stuff gets rehashed to the point there's not much to add.

With my wife passing earlier this year and myself dealing with some health concerns, I'm having a difficult time being motivated towards many things I used to enjoy. We also had a hotter than usual summer here, too hot for me, and I'll bet a lot of us have been dealing with various life issues as we age that take priority over fishing. I'll bet many here don't like admitting it either, but it happens.

When I was still working, and for Domino's Pizza, I noticed a change in folks habits at certain times of the year with regard to their spending. This time of year, as Mike had mentioned, many guys & some gals turn their interest towards hunting. Families with kids, have been dealing with end of season vacations, trying to get them in before school starts, and with that, planning for the start of school. There's only so much time & money to do all the necessary things and the recreational too. I'm sure some of those folks are spending their money on these necessities and not as much on fishing, so out of sight, out of mind.

Then there's the pro fishing tournament seasons winding down and other sports grabbing folks attention, both college & professional. It's likely there is only a hand full of folks around who are as dedicated to bass fishing year round as some of the folks here at UB.

I admit, I'm as guilty as anyone of not contributing much here lately, and frankly have not been fishing at all for a few months.  :(

Bud, yes, back in January. Thank you for the kind words. It's not been a sorrow that is easy to describe in words.  :(
