Chine walking Javelin

Running a 96 Javelin 389 dual console, love the boat. Has a terrible chine walk at about 55 and won't drive out of it, plenty of motor left with a 150 Evinrude but run out of hull think the prop is a 23 renegade.
Even scared the dealer who was "gona show me how to drive out of it" Any good ideas as to how to fix it.

Mine has a little chine walk but not it's normally at a higher speed and I can normally steer out of it. Adjust you jack plate first, if that doesn't work you may have to try a different prop.

MO Bass ,

Had a 379T that like to walk very similar to what you are talking about. I put a plate on mine and raised it up and lost almost all of it. But on early mornings I had to drive it a little bet as well. Took a little while to figure it out but I got the hang of it. Jack plate and rasing it helped tons.

Good advice sdendy, My wildfire was nasty until I raised the motor a couple of inches and now no walk at all.

Beaing a non baot owner, well at least a proper basss boat, what is chine walk? One day when I'm rich or win the lotto I might needto know what that is. Can someone explain

Chine walk is best described as the boat falling off the pad, "the small area of the hull in the water when the boat is on plane" this then continues to magnify to a really hairy situation. sometimes a light touch on the wheel eg balancing the boat on the pad solves this. hope this helps.

If I understand this correctly, its when the boat tends to move off of track while under speed, sorta like a car that road walks? So this makes the steering very precarious at best?

Like MO BASS said, the chine starts by the boat falling off the pad. When it falls off pad it immediately gets back on and then falls off again. The boat will start to walk side to side, at first just in the nose but if let go soon the whole boat will start rocking violently and at 50 plus mph it gets hairy quickly. There are several adjustments you can do, to include props, jackplates and a weight distribution in the boat. Some boats alway have it and with some patients and care in driving you can keep it under control.

MO BASS, If you raise your engine WATCH your water pressure. I had a 1999 triton tr20 with a 200 merc efi that had a lot of chine walk. I paid a prop shop in Richmond, VA $125.00 to take the boat on the water and adjust the jack plate and try several different props. The prop guy had a radar gun and we made passes on the James river with each height adjustment carefully watching the water pressure, hole shot and rpm's at wot. Turns out the stock Mercury prop was the best prop tested minus a couple plastic plugs and the height adjustments of about 1/4" at a time till we reached max performance without the chine walk calmed my boat without hurting performance or water pressure.

mobass, a little more info would really help. what is your engine height set at? do you have a jackplate? javelins tend to like the propshaft at @ 3" under the pad. the four blade prop will also give too much stern lift and make the chinewalk exaggerated. if you can, try a 24" raker, i think youd be happy with the results. good luck! mt
