new reel and rod for the wife

I am looking at buying a new worm rod for my wife. she wants a 7' by i think that may be a little long for her, as she is 5'5. looking for input .   shawn

I guess what im wondering is is that rod going to be hard on her during a tx.

I'm just 5'6" and have no trouble using a 7' rod. I use up to 7'6" rods. Now if she is going to be pitching up close to stuff then maybe try a 6'10" or a 6'6". But a 7' should be fine for anything else. Just let her try them out at the store and see which one feels best to her and is most comfortable.

thx guys, I just didnt want to spend a couple hundred and her not be able to sling it all day. As for flipping and pitching shes already got rods for that. I have always been an allstar fan but they dont seem to hold up as good as they once did. So give me some suggestions for some other rods with good sensetivity but better durabuility.

Yup definately give the Crucials a look.  If your looking at getting a crankbait rod make sure its a new one with TC4 construction.  If you feel like spending a bit more look at a Loomis.

My 7'2" tc4 crucial cranking rod is killer. I never tried a rod just made for cranking till i got this one. Makes alot of diff. All graphite. I always used a 7' medium/heavy with fast tip for cranking but there is a huge diff in feel with the crucial crc 7'2" heavy action with a medium fast tip.

Yup the Shimano rep was in Cabelas the other day picked up a 7' mh Crankbait series with TC4 and literally almost had that thing bent all the way over and was getting red in the face.  I plan on picking one or two up before to long I know they feel great in the store.

I can't be be held responsible is someone tries to bend their rod over and it breaks.

Get her something good. They don't like it when you are fishing with better stuff than them.

I personally use G.Loomis, but I have one 7' Shimano rod that I can't make myself get rid of. It feels great, and will remain a light jig rod for a while. The Falcon Lowrider and Cara series are incredibly good quality for the money.

I'm 5'4" and was leery about using a 7ft rod when I fished worms.  It didn't help handling one in the store.  I like a little  shorter rod when flipping baits and or spinner baits. I found with the 6ft 6in rod it was a little easier feeling bites.   Besides it never hurts to have several rods
