This is a very interesting lake...very little bottom contours...but some good bass (numbers and some quality exist)...

Fished today and found the water temps starting out around 9:00 AM from 46°F-48°F.  Fished all around and had what I think were a couple of bumps on the spinnerbait blade...did manage 3 (all about 12-13 inches but FAT)...one on a spinnerbait off the dam...2 in deeper water, steep banks on jig/chunk.

Hits/hook-ups were coming in 7-8 foot of water (as far as I can determine)  ... and they wanted it slow...no dancing, no 'pops' or jiggles...just a straight 'drag'...tried suspending jerk baits, cranks also to no avail.

finished up at about 1:30PM (long drive home)...water temps were up to 48°F-50°F by then...

This was the first week of decent weather after we went 'back in the deep freeze' for about two weeks...I expect things will start to pick up and trying to determine what water temps will be by next weekend...thinking mid-50's (Hoping?)...

All in all, about what I typically expect with water temps as they were.

Water clarity:  about 12-15 inches (using my white spinnerbait as a makeshift secchi disc...)...

Sabetha City Lake????  Do you mean Pony Creek in Sabetha or is there a different lake there??? That can be a great lake at the right time!!!!

Sabetha City Lake.  Not to be confused with Pony Creek...both of them have their charms... ;)

Sabetha Kansas?  I had some research up there but nobody every said anything about fishing.   ~rant Must be a few decent fish if you guys would drive all the way down to fish it.  Congrats on the fish.   ~c~

One of the things I appreciate a lot is the approach Kansas is taking on length/harvest limits for bass.

Most bass hunters are pretty much C&R up here...but folks who target crappie and cats just see them as bonus filets...which is okay...cause they are tasty...but someday, someday...hopefully we'll move away from the 'catch all you can, can all you catch' approach...

Now, if only we could allow harvest of cormorants...

I heard that Pony Creek was really low a while back.  Has the water come up enough to put a boat in and have you guys been out there this year?

Stopped by last sunday April 15.  Waters edge was about 4 feet off the edge/end of the concrete boat ramp.  That's the bad news.

the good news is that they have improved it below the ramp by putting down rock...I'd put in with a front wheel/4-wheel drive vehicle...(rear wheel drive might get a bit dicey)...and, of course, I drive a little aluminum john boat ... glass boat guys might wince a little or a lot...
